truck Bucking and shutting down.
Hi Guys,
This is my first post, I have read alot on here but still haven't really found what I am looking for.
I have a 2000 Ram 2500 Diesel,
I was driving the other day and it started to buck and kick pretty bad, I pulled over and it stalled out, I waited about ten minutes and it started right up, got about 5 miles and same thing but managed to get it to a safe place and had it towed home, next day I bought a fuel filter and installed it, the truck got all its power back and drove better than it ever has with no problems, drove it about twenty miles and came home, today I took it out and the bucking and stalling started again about a mile out and managed to drive it back home with intermittent but not bad bucking, I am reading alot about the fuel pump on here, This is my first Diesel and first time I had problems with it. can I get some good advice on where to start on tracing the real problem down? it only gives me a code p1693 however it has had that display since I bought the truck, I just never knew it was a code until I started reading on this site.
I would really appreciate any feedback that might help, Thanks in advance.

a code reader is very useful with these trucks, you can get one from auto zone or what ever parts store you have over there for less than a 100 dollars

update
Hi again,
The codes read p0216, p0370 and p1690, I put the fuel pressure gauge on and it starts at 15lbs when at idle about 12lbs on a load it goes to 10 to 11lbs, the truck stalls after warming up while the fuel pressure stays the same while stalling, when restarting after stalling I have 0, cant hear the pump after turning on the ignition also the wait light does not come on. when i crank it over and start it again the fuel pressure builds back to 10lbs. I hope someone can help with this diagnosis. I know its not looking good but I still have hope it could be something simple. Anyone in diesel land help explain these codes to me?
P1690 Fuel injection pump CKP Sensor Does Not Agree With ECM CKP Sensor
P0216 Fuel Injection pump Timing Malfunction [VP44 timing code]
P0370 Timing Reference High Resolution Signal "A"

Sounds like the VP44 which is typical for a 24 valve from 98.5 - 2002.
Great diagnostics here VP44 Diagnostic
