truck bed crane

truck bed crane
So I want to mount a 1000 lb. capable crane at the rear corner of the bed. The bed is still unmodified right now. My plan was to remove crappy falling apart bedliner, then find a cozy spot to install some 1/4 or 3/8 plate steel I happen to have laying around and then rhino liner the whole thing. Has anyone done one of these installs and has finished pics? I have the notion that I am going to install this low profile crane which hides up under the edge of the bed liner right behind the fender well when stowed and later on add a second crane near the cab of the truck on the same side of the bed for lifting bigger items. Thanks for your insight. As far as the installation goes I am curious if I am better off placing the plate steel on top of or below the bed and then bolting it with 10 or so 3/8 pan heads with locking nuts.
PS not interested in having the crane on a receiver hitch.

I did one of these years ago, and placed the steel plate on top. Mine was a work truck so I welded it down as well. On top worked great, but don't feel that it really needed welded. I tried it on the bottom, and the stock bed flexed so much it wasn't funny with a heavy load. 3/8" plate, and it worked much better

I got one years ago for $50 and have yet to mount it. Post pics if you get it done. Mine is attached to a square flange that is 3/8-1/2" plate with 8 bolt holes in it. I was planning to mount it to the top of the bed and around the frame with U-bolts or put another plate underneath the frame and bolt to that. We had one mounted on another truck before. If your lifting heavy stuff; get it bolted to or clamped around the frame.
