Trouble free head gasket??

I am wondering if there is such a thing as a trouble free fix for the 24 valve H/G?

I am going to be running a set of twins that will push about 70psi along with mach 6's and studs soon. Currently I have the edge juice w/attitude for a preformance box and thats what Ill keep. I want to do a head job once and forget about it! Is this possible? I talked to the diesel shop in town and they said they see these applications frequently and said they hold fine just with studs. I find that hard to believe. I want to do it right the first time and not have to do it again in the up comming months or risk getting water in the oil.

Fire Rings are recommended for boost ranges above 60psi I believe. I have read that with studs, gasket and fire rings are good to 100. O-rings are good to about 60PSI I believe.

Orings will be your answer, as long as everything is done properly. Theres people running way more than 60lbs with them every day. Fire rings are more desirable for competion, not so much for street driving.

I would highly suggest o-rings over fire rings if your truck is street driven. You will be happy with o-rings if installed properly as stated earlier. An o-ring job usually runs around $300 to $350.

O-rings should not be over $250. If they are, it's way too high.

There is more to o-ringing than just cutting a groove and throwing a wire in there. The groove must be the right depth and radius, it must be even and the same from cylinder to cylinder and even the ringing material matters.

Do it right!

Talking studs

Get the #625 studs their 12mm but have the hloding strenght of 14mm, unless you want to drill aND TAP OUT THE BLOCK FOR THE REG 14MM because the # 625 run about 1,200 bucks and you will have have the rockers machined to clear the studs!

What are the specs for o-ringing a head? Or how will I be able to tell if a machine shop knows what they are talking about? What matterial is used for o-ringing?

I dont think I need to go so crazy as to buy that quality of stud but, it would be nice. I just dont see a need but thanks.

I wouldn't even bother with the o-rings unless your pulling the head anyways.

Know several trucks around 800-1000hp and running over 80psi of boost on just studs.

Biggest factor is not pushing boost passed 15psi until the engine has reached operating temps.

But I also understand wanting to get it done now for the comfort factor.
I would also go with o-rings, not fire rings.

Ya thats what the shop here said to I dont even need them just stud it and forget about it. I do know one thing now though I wont even consider fire ringing it but, o-rings sound like good insurance. Anyone know of a good shop in SD?

I am guessing you are talking about common rail trucks, because I can assure you that you will not be so lucky on a 24V with that kind of pressure. On a common rail o-rings can indeed be more trouble than they are worth...
