Transmission rebuild

I am seriously thinking of rebuilding my own 47re. From what I have read here, it will be within my capabilities. I live in Vancouver BC so DTT is very close. I am going to call them today to see about prices and parts. I bought the Dodge FSM and also purchased a video on the 727 auto. I need to start accumulating some of the special tools needed for the job. Does any one know what thread is needed on the slide hammer for pump removal? I am sure this will be the first of several questions on this topic. Thanks very much.

I'm thinking about doing this too. Is the video worth getting, I have the service manual. Keep posting about your progress and any tips.

rebuild

I spoke to DTT today, the gal on the phone took the necessary info and will call back with prices. She recomended that I also get the ATSG service manual. I called ATSG and the manual is available as a download or print version. I am a highschool shop teacher,my plan is to get all parts and tools together and start near the end of the school year.

video

Forgot to reply regarding the video. I bought it last summer as I was down with a broken leg. I think it is worth looking at if you are not sure what is inside the case. Takes some mystery out of the magic that is an automatic transmission. I could not find a video for the 47re/ 618 so I got the one for the 727. No overdrive unit unfortunately, but apparently the rest is very similar.
No I don't think I will make my auto trans rebuild a class project. I am afraid my confindence level would not be great on that. I would like to have some of the students do a tear down and re assembly next year though. I can get a local wrecker to donate a GM 350 auto for free.

Well I think I'm going to go ahead and do it. Tried to order parts yesterday but Goerend Trannies is hard to get through to, hopefully today. Wish I could afford one of his complete trannies but his parts and advice will be the next best thing I guess. Now its time to do something about the cooler line aswell, the weeping around the quick connects makes me nervous.

Transmission

Hi Dieseldork.
The Dodge FSM is the Factory Service Manual available from Chrysler. I think mine cost me something like $100 Can. The video I bought for the 727 is produced by Technical Video. I mail ordered it, can't remember where. It is not hard to find, Google 727 automatic rebuild or something along those lines and you will find a number of sources.
So far no one has replied regarding the thread size for the pump bolts for the slide hammer?
