Transmission Questions

The apply lever can be had anywhere from 3.8 Stock to 5.0. you don't get 15% more torque to the wheels, just more pressure on the band, and that will vary with the line pressure. DTT makes a big deal about "special seals" my question is why? The seals in a stock transmission can be subjected to 280 PSI, so why are they not good enough for the 180 or so that the tranny normally sees? Dave will do five clutches in the front drum also, in fact anybody can do that, use the 48 RE drum in the 47 and voila-you have 5 too!! Don't tell anyone this is "top secret" the fancy accumultor piston and servo parts are available too. There are some fabulous converters out there too-for less than a grand, a lot less.

I did not mean to imply these things were "top secret" any longer.
MY POINT is that if other rebuilders did all the changes that DTT does.... the prices would probably be very similar.

And my point is ---is all of this stuff really required??? Food for thought..My dad runs his truck-340HP at 26K gross on a stock auto and has had ZERO probelms for 10 years!! I just recently "upgraded" his unit with some "extra" parts and a good VB and TC, although I will confess that the new tranny is head and shoulders above the stocker. But it did live for 10 years, and his truck rarely goes anywhere unless the Black Thunder is in tow!!

All of the internal transmission parts were from Dave G, the T/C was from TCS ( I got a Killer deal ), and the last VB I did was from Dave, I have used the Transgo, and the SMR kits before. I liked the SMR kit a lot. This time around I went with Daves kit, and will continue to use his stuff. The lockup switch will not "prolong" your life so to speak, IMO because it only holds the lockup or engages it a little earlier. If you lock it up and let it shift through the gears it is tougher on things. If you do nothing but over the raod driving it might help a little bit because the tranny will not change gears. I have one and use it a lot, when towing on the highway it is awsome-you can slow down to 40 or so and just lean on it to get back up to 70 or what ever speed you travel. I use mine on the beach too, put the truck in 2nd gear and lock it up-no high tranny temps and I just cruise along in 4WD low. The Dave G kit will let you do that, the SMR and the Transgo will not.
Sorry for the rambling, I have only had one , going for two now!!
