I have a full ATS trans in my '96. I blew out reverse the first time I tried reversing a 8K trailer up a steep driveway. (Trans was 4 months old w/3500 miles on it) ATS set me up with a local tranny shop to repair it. The tech said he called them and asked if there was a reason one valve or check valve was installed backwards. 
ATS screw up. The tranny was repaired, ATS paid for it, and it has run for the past 5 years running a GCVW of 16-20K an average of 4 days a week. I now have 62K miles since the repair and it has held up fine.
Would I buy another one? NO! If I buy another auto, I think I will try a DTT, but for now, I will buy trucks that require a SBC.
