Tranny upgrade questions

With the numbers I pulled on the dyno last week and more power to come, I need to upgrade the tranny in my truck.
I talked to a couple of guys who swear by the DTT stuff. Trouble is at $6K for the complete tranny with labor it's a big hit.
Do I need to spend that much?
Someone else told me just do the TC and valve body and I'll be fine.

What did you do (will be doing)? Who to use, who to stay away from? How much did you spend?

A lot will depend on exactly what your power plans are.
Up to 300hp?......600hp....... hp?

Higher levels call for different upgrades.

I went with Dave Goerend's Torque Converter, Valve Body and 3rd gear drum upgrade.
I'm extremely happy for much less than $6K.

Call each of the Companies and be truthful & specific about your future BOMBing plans.

PS: To those responding, If you can't say something nice here, send it VIA PM.
NO TRANNY WARS HERE.

I'd say if you are under about 40k-50k miles or so, and do not drive with the comp cranked max all the time, then a t/c & v/b would work ok, but be prepared to go further into it when you pull it apart, then if you find any burnt clutches, or metal in the pan, you will have the money to do it right the first time. That's usually the good way to go - pull the pan & look for debris, if that looks ok, then pull out the trans., when it's out you pull the front pump & look at the front clutch pack for signs of excessive heat - if the clutches are good they will have a tan color to them & writing that you can still read. If the clutches are dark/burnt then it needs a rebuild. If you plan on more power or towing real heavy or frequently, then maybe look at a complete transmission upgrade with more clutches, aluminum pan, vb & tc, etc.

The best advice to give you is to get on the phone. Call Bill K. (www.dieseltrans.com) or Dave Goerends (www.gbtransmissions.com). They are two of the straightest shooters around. You will get the advice you need.
