tranny temp gauge install

I have an autometer tranny temp gauge that I am installing tomorrow. I am using the 1/2 compression pipe branch tee. Any tips or tricks to help me out? I was thinking of cutting into the lines below the heat exchanger. Which line is the hot line front or rear? Thanks.

I put mine on the pan while I had the pan off and also added a drain plug. I believe the line going into the bottom of the cooler is the hot one. rule of thumb in on the bottome out on the top = air is removed.

Dodge makes a transmission line that has a port in it for the sender. It's the hot line so you get more accurate readings. Here's a couple of links that have more info and part numbers.

Follow the line coming out your trans going to the the heat exchanger, that will be the hot line. I've since moved my exchanger, can't remember if it was the front or the rear line but if I had to guess it's the rear line.

the hot line is the line towards the front of the truck. Don't want to start an argument as to weather which location is better, the pan or hotline. just know what your monitoring and take into account the temps you are seeing.

It's the line on the left of the heat exchanger.

I have 2 trans temp gauges, one in the hot line and the other in the drive port the temps differ by 40*.
The hot line is going to always be hotter because it comes right out of the TC.
As Dave Goerend said i don't care what the hot line temp is, i wanna know the pan temp. That's what is going back into the VB.
