Follow up for anyone interested
Installed 95 oil cooler line and moved temp gauge probe.
- Fairly easy install after prep work (removing ball and pre installing temp probe). Under an hour.
- 1/8" pipe plug mentioned above works great to plug hole in tranny pan...thanks for heads up.
- Lost just under 3 qts fluid.
- Infidel - Don't know how you removed check ball with just a screw driver? I had to drill the ball out and use a pick to get spring, etc...than flush it well. Maybe a design change?
Interesting thing is new temp readings! As I mentioned before, I'm in a fairly flat area so can't test it hard but I do have a 3 mile 5% grade of 4 lane highway I use. Seems like no matter what I do the temps just rise to about 130 and sit there! Full throttle, 97* OAT, 80% humidity, over 100 mph...and no big increase?
This was empty and I know I didn't work trans super hard, but still...can DTT be that good? Glad I moved the probe after our discussion (above). Need to find some real mountains for proper test. As I write this, I'm realizing speed was my friend - real test would be heavy and SlOW. Will try that next. Anybody got a mountain they can lend me.

The reason your temps don't rise is because when the TC is locked very little heat is generated. Try driving it around in 1st or 2nd with the A/C on and I guarantee you'll get the temps up.

Take it offroad, somewhere with some average hills.
Slow driving combined with the hill climbing unlocked will drive those temps right up.
Unless your DTT locks in 2nd,
then you won't see the extreme temps I see with my stocker saying unlocked till 3rd.

Thanks again.
My TQ only locks in 3rd & OD. I'm sure your both right and I'll see a lot higher temps but was still impressed during my test. H2O temps climbed quickly by end of third test run but trans just sat there between 130* & 140*!

In the Montana winter if I go out on the highway (what else is there around here?) my AT temps won't even go over 100°. Even then most of this heat is probably coming from the engine coolant/tranny cooler.

When I had the ATS tranny put in they recommend the probe be put in the pan. I have one of those deep aftermarket pan. The hottest I ever got my tranny was 180 pulling through the desert (109 degrees). The ATS moves twice the amount of fluid through the cooler as the stock tranny.
