In my quest for more power, my tranny's held up well, as well as can be expected anyways. It is a 518 non-lockup, stock, I haven't touched it. But the TC isn't working as it should and the shifts are getting erratic, the truck definately doesn't feel as strong as it once did. Guess those burnouts took their toll lol. I wanted to replace it with a 6-speed, but $$$ kinda thin at the moment, I'm trying to get twins put together along with head studs and o-rings.
I've rebuilt plenty of transmissions so rather than pay the 3500+ for a new tranny I'd like to find parts to do it myself but with enough strength to hold the new HP. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to go for them? A buddy of mine knows a good tranny shop around here and said for 800 bucks I can get their diesel kit which supposedly is good for 600hp. I guess he's used it in cars before, but I doubt any 600hp car has 1000+ft/lbs, so it's making me weary. So throwout suggestions guys, experiences good and bad, I'd like to hear anything. another sidenote, I'd like to get lockup if I can, I know there were lockup 518's, just wondering how much of a process it is to switch them over or should I just go find a juckyard one to start with?
