With this dealing with the same question I have, I just got my guages installed and the guy hooked up the tranny wire to the upper passenger side little towards the front on the tranny. The guage reads around 150 or so then raises a little when I give it more go go juice. Is this a good reading or not.

If it is in a pressure port then it is not in a good spot. The pressure ports have static fluid, not the fluid moving from the torque converter. You want to know when the fluid is reaching the critical temps, so you can take action to prevent any premature damage (shifting into lower gear or neutral if stopped). I know from experience you can get into high temps when backing a trailer or in stop and go traffic. It is amazing how fast the gauge rises under those conditions. The line coming from the drivers side front of the trany has the hottest fluid that you can easly get to. As stated before the fluid is either mixed or has a chance to cool in most of the other places. The damage can already be done before you will know something is wrong. That makes the gauge useless IMHO.

billg, your advice doesn't apply to the RH tranny used from '94 to '96. The middle test port on the RH is in the same flow path as the outlet to the cooler.

I have the hot line reading and mine reads 180 deg +- in stop and go traffic. Just to give you a ballpark reading.

Right now my tranny guage won't go above 150. Does the temperature outside matter cause its aound 50F. Just tryin to figure out if I'm gettin a good reading.

It depends on the type of driving you do, if the TC is locked most of the time the temp won't climb very high especially when it's cold outside. I do 99% highway driving and haven't been over 100° for quite some time. If your sender is where I think you're describing it the temp will also be wrong. It sounds like your probe is in the forward test port when it should be in the middle one.

I thought the test ports were on the driver side of the tranny. Cause this is mounted on the passenger side. I've got a heavy foot and I fly down the highway to work and it still stays below 150. He's done many trucks so I figured that this may be another correct way. Thanks for the info guys. I don't get a whole lot sometimes.

The test ports are all on the pass side. On your tranny the location for the stock sender is on the line to the tranny cooler, driver's side.
Another way to install the sender on an RH tranny is to remove the stock idiot light sender and replace it with your gauge sender. You will have to jump the wires to stock sender with a 700-1000 ohm resistor to trick the pcm into thinking the tranny isn't too hot or cold, otherwise your TC won't lock up.

Hi. Kinda new here. I have my tranny gauge hooked to the oil pan now. Want to move it. I bought the above oil line from dodge mention at the begiining of thread. I am not sure where this line goes. I think it hooks to the left front of tranny, but where does it go from there, Thanks. Bob

Follow the line from the left side of the trans, across the bottom of the bellhousing, to the heat exchanger {looks like a tin can on its side with two hose connections out the bottom} on the right side of the engine block.
