towing - sps 62 with smarty/mach6's

Alright, i just got back in from pulling a load of hay. trailer and load was roughly 32k. I had the smarty on 9 and the tst off. Pulling the 8k empty trailer was a peice of cake!

When i got loaded and headed home, i pulled out on the road and started gaining speed. This thing will roll the coal with a load on!! So much so that i could barely see the hay on the trailer 18 foot behind me. But of course i could drive with very minimal smoke, but whats the fun in that?

Little hills wernt a problem. No egt issues till i hit the last hill heading home. Its on a 4 lane divided highway and its somewhat steep. Speed limit was 65 and i was pulling it a solid 60 mph the whole way. I got a little warm in 6th, so i shifted down to 5th and temps were very controlable.

All in all im very happy. Cant wait till i get the twins in so i can turn the tst on low and not look at the pyro!

Everything I've read says that mach-6's are way too much injector for a 62 turbo and HO pump. Have you ever dyno'd that combo?

not sure on the turbo...but they are too big for the HO pump...he hasnt even got the full effect of them yet. when he switches to the SO pump i wanna hear his results because i think that will really wake it up.

-patiently awaiting BD's results of the SO swap

How were your coolant temps? I also want to hear how the SO swap goes. I have been told it works and want to do it also.

Do you have a 4.10? I don't tow anything, but with my 3.54 60mph in 6th is what like 1750 rpms and you're pulling 32k! Wow. Empty my egts go up a couple hundred degrees doing that.

just curious what fuel system do you run? fass, other pusher pump?? what about lines...have you upgraded the lines?

i run a FASS 95 with HUGE 1/2" line and no banjos and get 13 idle 10 wot with plenty of volume. just curious because i know the tst and 6's have to be draining that vp pretty good

My truck has egt's issues towing my 10k trailer. Tons of power. If you tow in the hills, they probably wont work for you. I think that a HO truck would have less egt's than a SO as your power level will down. Man, your trailer is gonna be covered with soot. My old trailer was black down the passager side. I'm supprised you don't have egt's with the sticks. Empty I still can peg the pyro pretty easy on 3X3 on my box. Some guys just run the sticks with a boost fouler. I find that the turbo spoolup is too slow for me that way for towing. I went to a 150 sized injectors, that fixed the smoke and egt issue.

Pulling 32k, that's 16 tons, holly cow!
This is combined truck, trailer, and load; or just the trailer and load?
Isn't the maximum combined weight for these trucks about 20k, truck and trailer? How do you control a load that big, how do you stop? I know people pull heavy loads with these trucks, but 32k, is this routinely done? I would think you'd bend your frame right in half with loads this big.

errr...... your kidding right? 32k was just the trailer and load. LOL if you think thats a big load, you obviously havnt seen my pics!

try this one

hows that one? There the trailer and load weigh approx 40k. (yes, 20 ton) plus the truck which weights 8k = 48,000lbs.

How do i control a load that big?? easy. Plan your stops, drive like a sane person and use the exhaust brake!

And when i tow is never under 20k.
