My stock turbo, Comp and 275's get too hot for towing. I will be putting the HTB2 62/13SS and 95 HP inj this week. I am going to see how the 275's work first with that turbo, though.
I would try the 95-100 HP injectors if I were you.
How tight is your TC?

Which B-1? If a full B-1.... with the Auto and the big injectors you have the worst towing combo I can think of.
I towed 8,000# with a big single (HX-55/14) and 150 hp, Mach 4's ... on level Interstate Hwy.... and still had excessive EGT's on very slight uphill grades.

If one of the faster spooling B-1's, you should be ok with 150 hp injectors or less.

100hp sticks or 125hp at the most if you want a tow rig. If you must have the large injectors....get a Smarty & set it on half power when towing. The turbo will be laggy, but no smoke & low egts.

Injector size isn't a towing consideration. Seriously!

The problem in your rig is the B1 turbo, if it's a "full B1". Too laggy and not enough cooling. That's why you're seeing smoke and high EGTs.

Injector size is only a secondary consideration, because larger injectors make PROPER turbo selection more difficult.

So, here's the proper way to set up the tow rig:
1) pick the load you will be towing. How heavy is it?
2) Under what conditions will I tow? Grapevine or Florida? Sea level or Rocky Mountains?
3) How much power do I need to be able to tow as I wish, based on the answers to questions 1 and 2? 300hp? 350? 400?

Let me pause to interject that many Class 8 rigs are lugging 80K with only 500hp. So, do you really need to tow with 400hp, or can you tow at a lower level?

Lots of guys are lugging barely-legal 5vers with just 350hp rigs, and they don't have to drive by the pyro that badly at all.

The problem you have is not so much injectors. Now, I say this based on the assumption that you have a nice, refined injector like a Don M F1 Mach 6. No? Well, then maybe it's the injectors after all

Good injectors open up a lot more options for you with respect to turbo selection.

I'd suggest (as I almost always do) an injector like the Mach 4. They are big enough to be fun, but still pretty well mannered, with manageable smoke, good mpg, and very good EGT for the size.

Relative to my previous extrude-honed 90hp DD2s, but Mach 4s have lower average EGT, a much higher threshold of smoke, and a LOT more power. Yes, they'll get toasty on a WOT run because they're bringing a lot more fuel, too!

Try a Mach 4 and a turbo like a ATS aurora 3K or HTT Super Stock 62.

For towing run an ATS Aurora 2000. Will spool VERY quick and flow a lot more air than stock. Towing with it should put you right in the sweet spot of that turbo and around 350-400 h.p. towing pretty easy. Hate to see you step down from a bigger charger (and you probably won't) but if you do tow a lot, the A2K is ideal. Just my .02.

I don't think it is. But I'm starting to think that a WG isn't all that important unless your already pushing a turbo way past its limit.

Heck, the WG on my stocker is blocked-- it sure doesn't like the 38psi the M4s can push it to! The point here is that I'm a poster child for needing the wg, yet it seems unnecessary even in this case. I don't get super high EGTs or really see any negative side to this yet, other than the possibility of my turbo coming apart at 38psi.

I've been asking around to people who have run the ATS turbos are most are quite impressed.

Pehaps I should insert a caveat into my sig: WARNING: MY FREE ADVICE IS WORTH WHAT YOU PAID
