torque plate question
Just got a 97 4x4 LWB ext with 135k and it's stock as the day is long. it was one owner and he had not even done the KDP fix. My cousin is a Cat mechanic and he is recommending I NOT do the plate change. Was thinking of a 10. anyone have any issues on thier CTD after changing the plate with a engine at 130000? Newbie so reduce the flames if possible. just looking to not be forced into some huge repair in near future because i had the need for speed.
thanks

At least do a valve body if it is an automatic. The temptation to push on the throttle at around 50 will be incredible. The problem is that at 50 mph, the engine is turning low rpm, around 1600. This is where it makes great torque, but low line pressure in the tranny. The torque converter WILL slip, and when it does, it escalates into catastrophic failure of the tranny. Do not remain in denial about it like so many others, go ahead and address the line pressures early, and you might save your tranny. Or, if you have the money, go ahead and install a good TC and a valve body, you will be glad you did.

bought my truck at 235k and have since had a 10 and a 6 plate in it along with gov springs and a bigger turbo. The motor has been going good for the last 15k. Sadly the clutch is letting go.
If it were mine I would atleast do the gov springs and bump the timing. Makes these trucks so much more of a pleasure to drive. I also wouldnt sweat a plate change unless you have an auto. Our trucks are enemic compared to some of the other B series engines Cummins makes.
**EDIT** dont forget to install the gauges first!

I put in a 10 plate and a 3gsk when my truck had the same miles as the one you have. The Cummins will have no problem with the plate. The trans will.
It will be a much nicer truck to drive with these two mods.
