Torque converter without vb upgrade

Would there be a benefit by putting only a TC upgrade without VB. Could I up line pressure some on stock vb. I only have edge ez and pull 6000 TT occasionally. I would like to get a little more power to wheels and a little less heat without spending a ton. I can get a TC around 1000. Is it worth the investment alone? thanks in advance

I wouldnt do it. Youll chew up the TC when its locked because the pressures arent high enough. It may take time depending on how light-footed you are, but pretty sure it will happen. The VB is only about 450$ and you can change that out yourself if you wanted. If you go with goerend's I -think- he will credit you the TC and VB towards a full build up if you upgrade later on. So thats some cash not spent twice anyways.

If the TC is good enough you will be fine with only an EZ. A Vb would make it better, but As long as the TC isnt slipping, then you wont have problems.

You need to talk to whomever you are buying your converter from. Personally I'd do the valve body too.

If I had to make a choice of just one or the other I would do the VB before the TC. The VB will put more pressure on the TC and help if from slipping. But to do it right get both. I opted to get the whole tranny from Goerand's just because my tranny had 140K miles on it.

I have a DTT 89H converter with a Transgo shift kit. When I bought the converter, DTT sent a shift valve along with it. The trans works good, no slipping, firm shifts, but I don't drive it like I stole it and don't tow or haul too heavy. Everytime I do get on it a bit though I'm thinking, "I gotta get a VB."

If you're pulling your trans to do the converter, throw a valve body in it too. It's next on my list for mods.
