Topper with aux fuel tank filling???

We just bought a ARE Topper for our truck, It'll be in in about 2 weeks. We're moving cross country and got the topper to free up some cab space. I plan on getting an old semi tank. I found a 106 gal tank. Question I have is how can I fill it with the topper on. The topper we are getting will have no windows or side doors (looks cleaner) Transfer flow has a camper shell filling kit, but can these be modified to fit any tank? I really want a aux tank since we'll be pulling our 33' trailer from OR to FL and dont want to get "stuck" having to pay for really high fuel prices. (like we haven't been already!! ) Thanks

Easy fix... Got down to local boating supply house and you can get filler necks from them normally pretty cheap and they will also have diesel rated fuel hose to connect between the filler neck and tank. Might have to put a fitting on the tank to accept the hose but that's pretty easy to get a hold of at any home improvement store (Lowes - Home Depot or the like).

Thanks, one more ? Since the tank is an old semi tank, how can I attach to the tank. The orginal filler is in the middle, so I would guess it to be better to put a fitting on the end of the tank right by the filler, but can it be welded on?? I wouldn't even think of it if it was a gasoline, but not exactly sure on a diesel tank.

most diesel tanks are alum, need to be heliarched. Any good welding shop should be able to help you out for not much.

I take it, you already have the tank, right? You could've gotten one that had the cap towards the end. The KW I drive, that is the way the fueltanks are made.

Nope dont have the tank, but the only one I found that I liked was 106gal with a center fill, I'll look for a end filler tank. maybe go down to a 75ish gal tank then.
Then how would I attach the filler hose from the topper to an existing filler hole, is there an adapter??

I assume the cap on the semi tank screws on correct? I had a 119 gallon transfer tank (like the ones sold at TSC) that I had in my last truck (plumbed in like a factory tank - just flip switch and it's running on it (returning as well)). The cap on mine screwed on with pipe thread so I could just put a piece of pipe and slip the hose over it clamp it down then enjoy...

I would just get a welding shop to hook up a fitting for ya on the end if need be.

If I remember yes it is a screw on, type. BTW How did you switch tanks completely even for the return? use one of those 6 port elec fuel valves?
