Things may have changed, but i bottom tapped and still had to grind. Don't forget to suck out the holes with a shop vac and tubing.

On 3rd gen bottom tapping is advised as well. If I would have bottom tapped to begin with I wouldnt have had to grind my rocker housing down at all ( )

supposedly ARP came out w/ a new PN that is a little shorter and doesn't require grinding the valve covers, but I'd rather have full thread engagement and not have to mill rocker stands to get it!!! if you bottom tap, it doesn't take but 10min of grinding for all 6 covers

65fury,
The 12mm's can be installed without bottom tapping.
On our engines/blocks there is more hole than there is thread if you know what I mean. And 100% of the time all of the holes threads are not at the same depth.
So that is the reason we bottom tap. Not only does it insure maximum thread engagement for the stud but it also looks good and right!
14mm are a whole different subject. When installing 14mm's you have to re-drill the block to a larger size and re-tap each hole to 14mm. There is also head work involved so it will accept a larger stud.

The holes are blind. You'll know when you reach the end.

ARP wants you to mill the rocker pedistals now. They include a shorter rocker pedistal stud so there arent any valve cover issues...
