Too much smoke!

I find that towing the same identical trailer with my truck and my ADR turned up to the higher levels, after the initial cloud my truck won't smoke anymore.
If I take my dads 3500/HO/6speed with an Edge EZ his will pour the smoke and belch after every shift. That's with shifting higher in the power band too.
Though, every truck is different so what I experience definitely isn't going to be what he or anyone else experiences.

Well, unless I'm reading your signature wrong, you also are running stock injectors and turbo which should never have a problem cleaning up no matter what programming you're running. I don't know how everybody else tows, but smooth shold not only give you no smoke but less wear and tear on everything in the drivetrain as well.

That's obvious that when shifting a manual that your boost drops, but the smoke can be controlled, especially with a stock charger and INJECTORS. Put some 150+ hp injectors in there with some programming and pull that trailer. More than likely you will have a constant haze. Add 35" tires and a bigger charger and there's just about no way around it with that tight converter in an automatic.

the comp is bad about smoke'n if you don't use the sub settings.....u can make a stock truck smoke a good bit with just the comp...and i'll agree with D-Tec up there.....the injectors are a bit big for the 62...a set of 100hp are plenty for the 62......just try play'n around with your COMP before you spend any money on other stuff...the 35's with 3.54 are fine...yeah you'll have some extra lag...but not that bad...

An automatic will smoke more. You said a tight converter is still looser than a manual. Well, yeah, when the clutch is engaged there is no slip, but the thing is, with a manual, you have some low gears to get you going. My truck will do about 35mph in 1st gear. A manual probably does around 10mph, maybe less. Of course if you shift a manual and then just gouge the pedal it is going to smoke with much of anything done to it. You have to re-apply throttle smoothly so that it doesent smoke as much. If you do that you can keep it to almost nothing. Plus since you run a stock automatic with a loose converter, you arent putting much power down till the converter locks, so that cuts down on the smoke. Get a tight converter and then try towing without any smoke.
Rodney isnt just arguing with you to be arguing, he know what he is talking about.

I find the 12 valve motors can spool better than us lowly 24 valves. There is a difference.
i tried several setups before I just realized that if I want minimum smoke/heat, I need two turbos!!!
It drives like a stocker, except my throttle now moves about a foot!!!

Eric - Wes had real good luck out of a 40. I think he had piers redo it, but when he had his '02 gray truck, I think he pushed somewhere in the 460-480 range. Just make sure you wastegate it at 40!!! He ran his pretty hard, but after switching boxes and running it to like 41 or 42, he pulled over right then and lowered it. Apparently he had a pretty real fear of what could happen after 40.
