too much lockup?
I am the new owner of a 94 3/4 ton regular cab 4x4 I picked up from an old guy who was the original owner. From what I have gathered talkin to him (very hard to talk to) he put in a programmer, injecters, and straight pipe. Along with this he had the tranny rebuilt with steel planetary gears, more clutches and an aftermarket tc. Anyways when the truck is cold and I put it in gear it will die. Or when its warm it will die if I'm sitting idling and the heater is on and I turn teh wheels it will die. My question is can I just trun up the idle a bit or do I live with it. Sorry if any of the tranny info sounds askew, I dont know that much about trannys.

You can't have a programmer on it. Your stuff is all mechanical (be thankful). Your TC would have to stall at like 1200-1000 rpm to stall these things. What's your truck idle at in park? How bout in drive once it's running?

I'd try setting the idle up just a tad (100-200 rpm).
See how hard it 'hits' when you drop it into drive or reverse.
Have you tried letting it idle in Neutural for about 30 seconds when 1st starting?
The stock Dodge Trans doesn't circulate fluid while in park.

It shouild idle at about 800 RPM warmed up in drive with the air conditioning on. Mine will stall if I give the throttle a quick tap while it's idling in drive. It never did this with the stock converter.

It idles at about 500 while in drive. Mine will also die if I give the throttle a quick tap. As far as teh programmer goes maybe its a chip? He said dr performance was teh name of it. If idle can be bumped up a bit how do I go about doin that.

500 RPM is way too low. To adjust, you need a 10mm open end wrench. The screw is on the back of the injection pump at the bottom. Instructions are HERE
I don't know what the programmer is. Pre-98.5 trucks don't have a chip of any kind. The fuel injection is all manual. Maybe a reprogrammed valve body in the trans?
BTW, you can edit your profile in your User CP and put your mods in the signature so people will be able to help you better. Welcome to DTR

i think you also need to take the afc off your pump and look at the plate that is in there, my money says it is a stock plate slid forward. a #10 and a 3or 4k rev kit will make a world of differance.

I have read bad news about that Doctor, they may have snowballed him into a chip and meant the ones that they gave him in the waiting room .
But, on the serious side it probably is your stock plate slid forward. I would suggest doing some searching and then pull the afc unit to see if the plate has any info on it, so you can identify it. Then get a pyro gauge in that truck, so you can see your max egt. just my .002
ps as said before, if it does'nt pull until 3000 rpm, consider a set of governer springs, they are sweeeeeet...
welcome aboard

I talked to the guy, it is injecters and they go through the pump and rebuild it with better "stuff", the stock plateis left there. The truck pulls really hard all the way through no problems there it just dies like stated up above.

What are your idle rpms in neutral with AC off?
I'd say turn your idle up to at least 650 in drive with the AC on with the procedure mentioned above.
