Too much Boost
#16
My timing has been changed to 15*. I put the 181's back in today, (getting way better at that then I ever wanted to) at WOT it is about 95mph before I can get the temp's to reach 1250*. The boost dropped back to about 35-36lbs also, so I'm pretty happy with that. I did loose quite a bit of bottom end, and getting almost no smoke now, so, Of course I went back in and moved the plate forward about .030, and adjusted the afc adjustment, to try and gain what was lost. Helped some and didn't seem to affect the temp's so I'll try a little more . Its raining here today so I can't go try a "real" run to see how the time, and speed does. Now that I'm back in the realm of reasonable temp's and boost, does anyone know about how much differents injectors will make, temp, boost and power wise? Maybe just the 215's, I've heard they arn't too bad, or any suggestions.

It sounds like you got the bug....bad. In the end, you'll probably be looking for lots of air with no lag = twins . You might as well go for the 370's too. I've got City Diesel's set and they are smooth with no stumble. As I re-read this, I guess I'm in that same boat.

Ok vssman, how did you know????
The 370's are in the back seat of my truck, (yea I know not much power there), I'm planning on installing them this weekend. My questions for you are, did you do the 370's before or after you did your turbo, and what kind of EGT's are you running now and what were they before the turbo? Where did you get your turbo from and would you recommend it or do you wish you had something bigger? If anyone else has any suggestions or recommendations please jump in.

TMC,
I had 300's & a # with the stock turbo. I could wrap the needle around the high end of the gauge. I wasn't sure what turbo upgrade to do and found the High Tech Turbo stage 3 kit. For the price, I figured it couldn't hurt. It really helped. EGT's could still go high (above 1300), but I really had to try to get it there. i.e. lug the engine in lock up and roll into it on a steep and very long hill. Well, with EGT's in check I HAD to go with bigger injectors. Soooo, the 370's went in. It still is very driveable but I can get it hot quite a bit faster. Right now I'm debating between High Techs HTB2 hybrid or twins. I know other single options are available, but I can't see spending almost 2G's when I know I could build a twin setup for that or less.

vssman,
I've looked at the HTB2 also, but I haven't called HTT yet. There web site says it is built for the 24 valve engine. Have you talked to them about if it will work on a 12 valve and why they say it is for the 24 valve?? Do you have any problem with lag and spool up with the 16cm housing and the auto trans, I've heard that is a problem with your combo. What are you going to do with you Hybrid if you do go with twins or the HTB2??? Did you install the stage 3 kit yourself, and if so how hard was it? Thanks, Tim

I have a 12cm housing and with the hybrid it spools up like yesterday. I did the install myself, including the machining work. The Stage 3 kit requires you to open the diameter of a counterbore by about .125 inch. I have access to a lathe at work and did it there. Any machine shop (or toolmaker friend) can do it for you. The rest of it is bolt on. I didn't even remove the exhaust housing from the manifold, just unbolted the center and front sections from it. It was easy. I talked to HTT a while ago and they should be able to hook you up with the parts needed to install it in a 12v. I believe the only differences should be in the oil lines. I suppose it would be easier to get a 4" downpipe too.

vssman, your hybrid turbo does that use the same exhaust elbow as stock? And do you think that would be a good one to get for my truck if I added a #10 plate? I understand I'll need to putz a little with the turbo to run what little I have and a #10 without causing problems.
Thanks
Thanks

The only thing different from the stock turbo is the compressor side (front or cold air side), exhaust side is stock and didn't even come off of the truck for the install. It is held on by a big snap ring. You have to atleast take the front/center section out of the truck to do the install as you have to put a wrench on the turbine 'nut' to tighten everything together. After you disconnect the oil lines, you only need to take 4 bolts out and the center/front section "falls" right out. They also have a stage 2 kit that doesn't need to have any machining work done to the center section. I'm very happy with the upgrade and can easily hit stupid boost pressures if I didn't have the elbow orifice set properly. I run a #4 which is a bit MORE aggressive than a 10. Will it get hot? Yes, but I really have to work very hard at it. Best part, besides the low cost, is the instant boost with NO lag...
