No pro rate? For that I'd run just about any tires. I'm pretty brutal on them I have no concept of "I won't drive through that"...

I've heard really good things about the Firestone M/Ts as far as durability.

But keep in mind that you CAN have a tire that lasts too long, if that durability comes from a tread compound that's too hard for the intended purpose.

My experience has been that tires with long treadlife in an M/T pattern can be really bad in cold weather rain and snow/ice. OTOH, M/Ts with softer compounds (like Goodyear MT/R, Intercos, etc) can actually do pretty well in cold weather.

The point is that since tires are all about compromises, don't give up too much of everthing else to get any one thing.

The factory Michelins on my truck wore like iron, but would get stuck on wet grass and were worthless on anything but dry hwy.

Cooper Chapperals? You tested those things on ice and snow yet? How do they handle the weather?

All i can say is stsay away from the Nitto TG's. I have them on my 96 and i am very dissapointed with them. They wear pretty fast.... 30k..... and don't do good in mud, on wet pavement, and i got stuck on wet grass.... flat ground.... luckly i got it in 4wd and got moving but they are way too expensive for what you get. I haven't got new tires yet but I will be researching some of the suggestions here. Good luck!!

I heard the BFG M/T are stiff and because of that don;t have very good slick road (packed snow - ice) traction. Of course, they wear like iron but that is the trade-off. I love my Wranglers, I plan for my next set to be 285s Silent Armors. They are making those specifically for 3/4 ton trucks now and are good in snow:

I've been debating wheter or not to try a set of Pirelli Scorpions to replace my BFG AT's (gone in 30K Miles). The Pirellis are rated #1 on Tirerack.com. I just have to justify the price.

Whats the deal???? Some people get such good milage out of BFG MTs and some say there so soft. I haven't been impressed with these BFG ATs on my truck now yet some say they wear like iorn. Every tire thread I see just makes me more confused. I think im going to try some toyo mt's next I don't hear to many negative things other than price.

Cool! Another option for an E-rated 285!

I still like the Toyoy M55s, though.

Pirelli's are slick on the snow and ice, but I don't think you can get a longer lasting tire for the price. My buddy got 90,000 miles out of his last set on a light weight TOYota TOYcoma. I don't see a need for E rated tires when you are clear up in the 285 size. 285 D's are rated for more weight that E rated 245's. E's have a rough ride from my experience. They also seem to have no sidewall crinkle action so they spin like a mother on the street.

i have general grabber at 2s right now, almost wore out(70, 000 km). i will be putting on toyo OC A/Ts or bridgstone dueller a/t revos - still undecided. but both are supposed to be quieter with more traction across the board. i am leaning towards the toyo's, so are 7/10 guys at the tire shops here.

big blue24: what size tires do you have on now? i will be looking at the 285/75/16, or the 295/75/16. do you know if either one sticks out farther than the body (wheel well)?

thanx,
jason

BlackSilver the BS Dueler's are awesome! I had a set on my first 97' 4x4 ram and they pulled good in mud, great in rain, and had very nice highway manners. Also very quiet tire and got 80k out of one set. They will surprise you greatly.
