Tire Question (yet another one)

2WD, currently has 265's on it, however the door jamb says 245's??? So being curious, I checked the odometer via 1/10th mile markers on the highway, and for 7 miles, it clicked perfectly to the mile markers?

So, were 265's an option maybe? Or perhaps the previous owner has had the odometer recalibrated?

How much of a difference would 265's be over 245's?

The tow package includes the 265 tires, even though the door plate says 245, so if it came that way from the factory, the ECM would be appropriately calibrated.

He's right. I just bought new tires and came across the same thing. If you check into it, you probably have the camper special package on your truck. If you do, that's why you have the 265s.

Yay, camper pkg!

I bought it just to get the bigger tires and wheels so I could keep the stock 16x8s when going to a larger tire. Saved money in the long run.

I Pass Gas, what size tires did you go with? Did you ever look into the leveling kit?

I am waiting for my springs to arrive and was wondering; Once I add the two inches to the front, do you thing 285's will fit? I'm currently running 265's too ... w/camper package.

Yep, just checked my door sticker, and it says 245/75 but mine came with 265's and camper package.

Talking

I knew it was one of those packages. I have both but forgot which one the tires came with.

I have the camper and tow package. My truck came with 265's and now I'm running 285's. I haven't made any other modifications. I think they look great but may go back to 265's or 275's next time around. It's just a tad more sluggish in comparison to the stock 265s, plus I think I got better mileage back then, although I never really paid attention untill I had the 285's put on. As a side note I tried 295's but they rubbed during hard turns and braking.

Mine is 2wd, but with the 2" over-stock springs I'll be installing, I was wondering if the 285's would work?

I stuck with the 265s. I still am looking into the leveling kit. I can't stand the way the truck sits. I would think jacking the front up 2 inches should allow a taller tire, I just didn't want to experiment with that. Please let me know how the 2 inch lift effects your tire wear. That's what I am worried about with the lift.

Well isn't that interesting, thanks for the info. This forum is great!!! Now I find I most likely have the tow package (I don't think I have a camper package, no helper springs). I assume this is just bigger tires, bigger coolers, etc...? I only tow my boat (5500#), but nice to know I have some extra life in there for it.

I had LT305/70R16 "E" rated tires for 2 years, and installed 2" coil levelers in front at same time( and rear air bags). I just swiched back to what truck came with new LT265/75R16. With stock size tires back on, towing is much easier without lugging or speeding to compensate tire difference. Stock tires look great with front lift now, and I just sold 305's and tires all were 10/32"-11/32" of tread left with no uneven wear( from new 17/32"). But I also rotated every 10,000 miles or so. My mileage also dropped, and speedo was out 10% with bigger tires. If you install front coil levelers yourself like I did, mark all your old positions and put back there. I went in for alignment after and they didn't even need to adjust anything, it was that close .
