Just a quick note about using them in cars, I have found that you stand a good chance of having lateral wobble in the tires on cars when using the beads alone. I have tried the beads on two cars (one of which has 195/65-15 tires) and both of them have quite a bad vibration with the beads.

What brand did you use?
I started running Counteract in the tires at work about three years ago and haven't run into a problem. That's 22 sedans, SUVs and light trucks with a wide range in tire sizes. It could be you didn't use enough material.

I am using dyno beads at 4oz per tire. The recommended amount is 2oz, which is where I started, and added one ounce at a time. I am not sure what the problem is exactly.

Try breaking the tire down and taking a look inside. Do it on one you -know- for sure is vibrating. I'm guessing they are stuck to the inside of the tire, but take a look.

If you have a bad tire the beads or weights won't help. If your tires and wheels are good they will easily balance with the beads.

I've seen several people that are having trouble with their tires shaking, try to add beads for a miracle fix, they need new tires.

I will still be trying them on the Ram as soon as I get the new tires for it. However on the cars there were no vibration problems prior to installing the beads, so I am quite certain it has something to do with them. And I did break down the tires each time I added more weight, and didn't notice any problems with the beads being stuck or anything. It has me stumped.

I just ordered DynaBeads from Inovative Balancing. According to the chart, they recommend 4 oz. per tire for my size. I ordered 5 oz. per tire just as a little margin of overkill. Does this seem to be enough?

rattle_rattle,
I get a kick out of some of these names you guys come up with

Anyhow, you will be fine with 5 oz. That's what's nice about the beads. If the inside is clean, they will use and position whatever is required to get the job done, and evenly distribute the unused portion so that it has a zero balance effect.

Well...

I just got done with a test drive after adding 5 oz. of DynaBeads from Innovative Balancing in each tire. It took almost three hours due to the beads jamming up trying to put them in. I removed all the lead weights. My truck shakes like crazy. Sometimes when the imbalance gets in sync and two or more tires add, it's difficult to keep it on the road. It looks like I made a mistake. Not only am I out the money I paid for this "snake oil". Now I have to go get them balanced at the tire shop again. Live and learn.

Did you breakdown and clean/dry the insides of your tires? I am nervous now -- I am mounting my tires this weekend! I guess I will just have to see....

rattle_rattle did you have a problem with tire balance before you tried the beads?? I quess you did. You probally have a bad tire or 2. The beads won't fix a bad tire.

RickCJ:

I had one tire that was slightly out of balance, barely detectable. So, IMHO, the tire is balanceable (is that a word?). As for having two bad tires out of four, that sounds unreasonable considering they cost $200 a piece.

zulusafari:

No. I didn't break down the tire or do any cleaning or drying.

Just as an update. Innovative Balancing is willing to give me a complete refund if I'm not happy. At least that will cover that loss.

rattle_rattle, all I can say is something else is definitely wrong, I'm 100% certain the beads work excellent. Most likely tire goop inside.

My mom just bought a set of tires that cost $200 a piece and 3 out of 4 were out of round. Just cause a tire costs a small fortune doesn't mean that it can't have faults.
