I'd say verify the pin location by dropping the valves to find TDC. What RPM does it begin to smooth out when you give it some throttle?

okay just checked my timing, its at 19 degrees, um the motor smooths out right away when i give it a little more throttle, i haven't tightened down the gov springs yet so i might try that to help the idle. but the white smoke thing is making me curious, and it smells very richly like diesel an not coolant so should i advance or retard the timing?? thanks

anything above 16 is pretty hard on the head gasket without orings and studs. So the idle doesn't smooth out at all when the engine warms up?

I got studs and a marine hg. the truck does smooth out once its warmed up a bit, but even after letting the truck sit for 10 minutes and then jumping in and starting it, it lopes once in gear. i got a vid so im gonna try to load it
