Timing

How high can the timing be set without having problems? What can I expect with higher timing? About where should I set mine at?
Thanks
adam

I haven't change mine yet but have been reading lots of post , I see a lot of guys going as high as 19 but [ this is the short verssion ] it starts to cause other issues , but to get what we are looking for [ power-performance ] 15-16 is a good compromise . I cann't remember were the link is that talks about limiting to those #s

I run at 19, but am not heavily fueled. Advanced timing will build cylinder pressures quite a bit, and if you're fueling heavy the problem is worse. If on a stock head gasket be careful. I think with your mods you'd be okay up at 19, but then I have the little pump, which like a little more anyway. I have not had any starting issues in winter, or any other problems. Just better mileage, and the power range being raised a few rpm. You will sacrifice some low end power....automatics usually don't see the loss, but a gear grabber might. When I set all my buddies, I usually set them at 16.5. This is a good compromise between top end power and a safety zone should they fuel up later.

I'm running 19.5 but the head has been trued and running studs on it. The 40 is wastegated at 42 lbs. and I haven't had any problems with it. It is a little harder to keep running on a cold weather start but I think the governor springs cause most of that problem. I tried 17 and really don't see any difference except for a little more rattle at idle at 19.5. It really helps the upper end and pulls pretty strong to about 3600 rpm's. I am running a decent amount of fuel and can hit 1600 degrees at will. Hope this helps. I just looked at you're setup, you are running quite a bit of fuel with no plate and a 215 pump, I would probably go at least 18 if it was me. Do you have governor springs, if not they are a great addition.

Feel pretty silly asking, since I build small gasser race engines for a living, but I just don't know CTDs, so here it is: How can I bump the timing on my 600? I do most of my driving between 4,000 and 9,000 ft. altitude, and though I have heard that diesels are not as sensitive to altitude, it just makes sense that a bit more timing should help mileage and performance. What is the stock timing, and how do I go about adjusting it? Thanks folks.
PM me if you wish, or I will check back on this post.

No options for playing with the stock electronics to increase timing.
Need to add a chip/box like the Edge Juice...or bigger injectors!
