Time for a South Bend

Last weekend a couple of us wandered over the mountains to go bash our Jeeps. I had two on my gooseneck which made a nice load. For the first i had clutch problems while towing. If i wasn't nice with the skinny pedal in 4th and 5th she would slip pretty good. On the way home it stopped slipping but that was from a blown intercooler boot (got that little problem fixed). So i Have decided to go with a 13 inch Southbend Con FE. Now i am kicking myself for not doing this 2 months ago when i had the tranny out fixing fifth gear. If anybody has any imput on this it would be very appriciated.
Thanks

My next question is where is the best place to buy the clutch? I have priced it out at a couple of places and it was right at 1000 bucks.

it's rated for 550/1100 not 1500. I think most people have seen numbers well beyond the ratings of South Bends clutches.

I have an FE in my 03. It is grabby, and will jerk if you try to take off in second. I use first/granny gear just about every time to get going to avoid it. backing up isn't real horrible, but still I wouldn't want to do it with a trailer behind me. It kind of sucks in gravel too. But, it holds....and that's what it's supposed to do.

I got a great price on a FE from TREdiesel. I never actually installed it, but it was a good price with the DTR discount

You have to call the DTR store. They carry alot more then they list and will give you a great deal. Trust me I've bought a few clutches from them.

Good strong back, double and triple check the disc and make sure you have the "flywheel side" towards the flywheel.
