Through Hood Exhaust Legal?

Any ideas if an exhaust pipe through the hood is street legal?

Each state will have their own laws, but most likely not legal. I've seen a few people do it though. As long as there's not a thick constant plume of smoke pouring out of it I don't think most cops would care (at least around where I live). In big cities with heavy traffic I could see them caring but not in my podunk town.

up here i belivie the general law would be it has to exit after the cab to reduce the carbondioxide you enhale. at least to pass a saftey anyway

I can think of a couple of objections the cops might have, noise and obstructed vision.

Dunno if it would cause a problem unless you tick off a cop.

i would have to think yes, its illegal for the safety reason. Same reason the under cab exhaust outlets are illegal, fumes.

However, that one youtube video with the cummins with the dual pipes out the hood was pretty cool looking

When the time comes to get another turbo, I think i will route the blow off pipeing through the hood

I thought it was illegal in indiana but I saw a truck about a month ago running one? I just couldnt bring myself to cut a hole in my hood, but thats just me. I think if you found a cop having a bad day he would definitely call you out on it, obstructing vision and what not, had a buddy get a ticket for the cowl hood on his mustang being to big. I also think the dot would roast you if they caught you. It would also cover your hood and windshield in black soot after a rain. Just my .02

I am trying to find the 3rd gen with the pipes through the hood. It might have been a 2nd gen, but it was a white truck and it looked pretty nice

My vote goes for movie number 2. Can't see much, but the flame from the stack makes up for it. lol As for in pa, not sure how you would get an inspection sticker with a hood stack as it inpairs your vision.

In pa dont eve try. One of my closest friends is a state cop, he has an 06 with stacks. The local police kept pulling him over and trying to write him tickets but he would show them in the book they couldnt. Then they started hounding him on no heatsheilds, he finaaly had enough and put them on and now they dont bother him. Me and my cousin havent had one problem.

I had stacks on my truck and didn't have the heat shields on either. I attended a meeting for state inspection officers and the quality assurance officer made a specific statement about these pickup trucks with stacks on and no heat shields. Well my name was on the sticker so needless to say, the stacks came off. So i know all about the heat shield thing.
