Thoughts on Hypertech 3......

I recently bought a '01 2500 CTD and am looking into chips and programmers. The Hypertech looks good to me since it has 3 settings, can adjust for tires/gears, and has 3 power settings for $285. I was wondering if people had good luck with the hypertech III as far as power, milage, etc.
I am also thinking about a 2 inch leveling kit. are there any downsides to doing this?[/B]

The Hypertech is the least popular of the performance options, not real sure why... It should do a good job, if a little limited.

What do you want out of the truck? If you don't mind tapping the pump wire the Edge Comp would probally be the best pick. But there are at least two people on here that will not tap their VP-44 wire...

And before you start adding fuel you will want gauges.

Well i really don't need much more power since i won't be pulling very often, but when i do hook up to a trailer, i would like to have some more grunt. I've looked at dyno charts, and i could expect gains of at least 50 horse and 150 ft-lbs and "2-6 more mpg." I would imagine I would be happy with that much more power. I also believe that any given engine only has so many horsepower-hours of life and I plan on having this pickup for a very long time and want to make it last. I would also be happy with just 2 mpg more. I would appreciate anyone's input.

If thats all you think you are gonna want go for one of the programmers, they can be had for $200 used pretty regularly. They work well for a little bump. But if you think you are gonna want a drag racer, they are not the best option.

When I have the money I will most likely get a programmer and a boost fooler, and call it good. I have a problem with tool buying, and now I am about to need tires. And still haven't gotten gauges.

I've got the hypertech...no problems with it so far...It adds good power. I havent ever had another module so I dont have anything to compare it to. A lot of guys dont like them...but I have one and I dont see why they dont like it. I do plan on getting an edge comp after I replace the VP44 WHEN it goes out...because it will eventually....but that is a ways down the road.

There is a Hypertech for 2001's in the classifieds for less if that is the way you want to go. They are not hot items around this web site.

Regarding the 2" leveling kit....You don't list if 2x4 or 4x4?
If 4x4, the lift is a snap...with no neg. side effects and looks great. Any more than 2" you will need different shocks & alignment.
I know nothing about 2x4 front ends!

I havent really noticed any difference in mileage with the programmer, however, at the same time that I got the programmer I got slightly larger wheels and tires which could have had a negative impact on my mileage. I did notice that my truck was slower with the new wheel/tires too. But I would say even if you didnt want to use the performance part of the programmer....you can still change your tire sizes and check and clear codes.
