Thanks to the HELP forum GSK & #10 plate
Thanks to Dr. Evil and TxDiesel007 on the HELP forum (thanks guys) got my 3GSK and #10 plate installed this afternoon.
Some tweeking of the smoke is needed (belches black/ grey @ 3/4 throttle) but after about 1700 rpm I have a totally new truck. The 10 plate grunts it hard right up into the new spring range were before the defueling would begin.
I need less throttle travel to achieve the same rpm's as before. Plate or GSK?
I stopped around 2400 rpm because I was already doing 80+mph and there was lots of throttle left and, well, on a Sunday I don't need to take out some family on the way back from dinner at Grandma's house.
I can see now how you could shorten the life of a tranny with this 10 plate...
This is it for power mods for me. Just wanted a truck that could take advantage of its engine when needed and drove a little nicer. Beats the panties off my PSD anyday. And just after an afternoons tinkering at that.
BTW, going into the springs through the top is cake as long as your magnet is small but powerful (rare earths are great) and a long narrow magnetized screwdriver. It just was not that big a deal, parts in and out.

it is all GSK all that the GSK does as you have noticed, it drastically widen your power band that already consists of the power that you already had with the truck. I know i fell head over heels for my 4K when i got it in, it was a night and day difference, 3/4 throttle on a stock truck will do what mine does not with 1/4 throttle or even less than that.
The ten plate is a much smoother fuel curve than the stock plate, and you have more fuel than what the stock plate will give you, so all in all its a combination of both. Glad to see you got it up and running..
If you cannot tolerate the smoke, back off on the starwheel (which sorta serves as the fine adjust for the smoke control) or you can back off the plate a little bit. With ur stock trans i imagine ur running it in stock location. If you push it forward expect your tranny not to last much longer under load, and ur truck will wake up even more (comparable to the next plate on the list, the 8) I run a 100 which is a 10 with no top end defueling (pics in my gallery thank u northslope) and man it does become a race with the pyro and the tach really quick..
But for a minor pickeruper, cannot go wrong with what u did.. Enjoy and thats what we are here for, to help you...

Update
My timing had slipped from the stock 14* to 12.5. Advanced that to 15.5*.
Valves were a quarter turn loose.
Now, yesterday I put in the 3GSK and #10 plate. Yet I still could tell right away that I had even better power after todays tuning. Smoother, less valve noise. The engine is overall louder though, especially at certain RPM's.
For those just getting into a 12 valve either as their first diesel or after coming over from a PSD as I did, I highly recommend getting the valves adjusted and the timing checked as part of the "new to me" routine. Its at least worth it to know where things are at and if you're like me you'll get a better running truck right there.
