Well. I got my Goerend converter in around 6:00 today, and i have no more use for the lockup switch. I can tell you right now, that this converter feels awesome, and as far as speed, i can only see locking the converter through the 1/4 helping by 1/10th or so. With my stock converter, it made almost a full second difference in my 1/8th mile!

This was my primary reason for putting in a lockup switch. I have this stubborn hill with several s-curves that I have to go up just about everytime we go camping. I can't quite maintain RPM in 3rd locked and dropping the gear selector in 2nd unlocked only sky rockets the tranny temp before I can creast the hill. After dropping in the DTT and adding the L/U switch, I figured I could just drop it in 2nd, hit the switch and I could maintain a safe RPM in 2nd locked. Well, little did I know, even if the gear selector is in 2nd and you lock it up, as soon as you lift your foot just the slightest the tranny would jump into third...violently.

I called DTT and sure enough this is normal. The only way to mantain a 2nd gear lock without jumping into 3rd, even though the selctor is in 2nd, was to get the DTT smart controller (I'm not sure if any other controller will do the same.) I decided to pass on the controller for now and just keep a close eye on temps when I hit the hilly s-curves.

I mainly use the switch for a little extra braking coming down hills and at the drag strip of course.

Mine will work in which ever gear i select...And if the selector is in 1st or 2nd it will stay there. Thats weird that yours actually shifts.

Im sure most you guys dont care but shifting with the tc locked and or slam shifts are hard on trans parts. Those brokin shaft pictures prove that. Slam shifts eat up the splines on the shafts and planit gears etc etc.
Tear them up,the trans shops love you!

The stock VB would not do this upshifting. As far as I remember the pressures are that high that it will force the VB to upshift, this seems to be a remainder of the anti overrev or anti wheel lock feature of the stock VB. The smart controller has a sensor that checks whether you are in 2nd gear manually and if so will adjust the governor pressure to roughly 4 mph equivalent.

If you have a 4wd the 2-low kit would be the better solution IMO- getting the finer gearing in low to climb the hill in 3rd lockup or OD

Just my 2c

While I totally agreee with you now...in retrospect, I merely drove the trans as I was prescribed by the builder. He new my power levels, and everything else right down to my tire size.

"Our Triplok is designed with a dampener to ease the pulses on the drivetrain. The stock shafts in the Stage 4 will handle lock to lock just fine, providing you don't exceed 10 psi launches. This is why we make our converters a little looser.....for daily drivability. When you want the performance, lock up the converter and go."

I call BS!! I went through 3 of their trannies, though only one from a shaft failure.....all warrantied despite their shaft policy (he really did go out of his way). As long as they were buying the parts I drove like he said I could. He said I got a bum shaft....to be expected from stock shafts with no QC. After the 2nd unit failed, he told me not to stall launch anymore...though lock to locks were still okay. So I eased up on the trans and still broke an input. I don't know about everyone else, but I bought my expensive trans to be able to drive it hard. I learned a valuable lesson, and after I disassembled the trans I found lots of burned frictions and steels, broken planetary pinion thrust washers, and of course the input. Lock to locks WILL damage, or at lest stress all the other internals.....it's not all about the shafts. Bottom line, becasue of all the hype and competetion between the autos, I only wanted to spend the $4500 one more time. So I converted to a well appointed handshaker.

I think mine shifts harder with the new Goerend than it did with the old converter doing locked shifts Im tellin ya. This thing is TIGHT! I drove a friends full ATS, and i dont believe it was near as tight as this. Its was a triple disk though, so i guess they dont have to be. It rained for the first time today since i had the new converter in, and on the 1-2 shift, with me getting into the go pedal a little i could break the tires loose.

Thats great that it can break them lose in the rain. I have a sun coast triple disk. It is hard for me to drive in the rain at all. I will break them loose through all the gears not getting into it. On dry pavement I can break them loose 1-2-3 shift.

What does the Goerend tc do?
