TC lockup switch
#31
If you take off from a dead stop with the switch on and the gear selector in the "drive" position, it will go thru 1st normally, then hit 2nd, and lock the converter, and stay locked til 4th gear. If you have the gear selector in 1st or 2nd manual postions, it wont lock for some reason.

i have the switch too although i don't talk about it ...i used it 4 times and won't use it anymore....it worries me...u know that feeling when ur rolling through town in 3rd and the guy in front of u slows u down below 1400rpms then down to 1200rpms and ur the truck starts to shake?...why on earth would u put ur truck through that on every single shift?...i'm even scared to stomp the pedal with the truck locked up at 2000rpms...just to make sure i dont rip that tiny clutch to shreads....
i could see myself abusing the switch if i had an ATS setup with billet shafts
a valve body mod will let u have it in 2nd locked...i always wanted to do that too...i think the BD pressure loc lets u do that...not sure on that one though
ps guys...what is Dave Goerend charging for a triple disk TC and something like 1600rpm stall?...his website really needs some prices

The ATS valve body will allow lock up wherever you want it......sitting at a light in drive it will lock up and kill the engine if you like. They remove the 1st gear lock-out circuit.
Incidentally, I am parting out my ATS Stage IV....The pump, TC, input and drum are toast (from above image of input shaft destruction!) The valve body is still fine and most likely the only part that is not stock anyway other than a few holes drilled here and there through out the trans. The clutch packs are, however, up-numbered, and I personally replaced the 5 pinion OD planetary with a 6 pinion planetary during the last output shaft replacement. VB pressures were set at 85 idle and 130 in drive at 1600, 140 in drive at 1600 locked up. I further modified the VB for a lock-up hop-up, and a stiffer 1-2, 2-3 shift. I also modified the TV circuit for the non-GSK 12 valve rpm band. Anyway, PM me.

If you lock up the conveter below 25 mph you can put serious stress on the tranny. I have seen input shaft and output shafts made of billet explode. According to SunCoast you should not lockup below 25.

I can see that much difference on a stock tranny...if you have the nerve to use one!
67HOTROD - Had not considered the advantages when used conservatively for towing, but makes sense!

depends on the converter. My triplelok was so loose that at even my average power level, the r's never were below 2400 on a hard full throttle run. Locking it up out of the hole in first yielded MUCH better results by getting a lot of the engine's power back. With a tighter TC the difference wouldn't be as noticeable, if at all. I don't want to bash ATS by saying that either. The build them looser for average drivability by the largest sector of their customers, and they believe in lock-to-locks to overcome the stall.....verbatum mind you.

I know a guy named bruce you lock up his tranny at 10mph. This blew all 3 of his shafts that were made of bullet steel. If you read all the disclaimers from Suncoast converters they say not to lockup under 25mph. My tranny locks up when it goes into second gear (around 25-30). If it works for your friend good for him, but I'd watch his tranny.
If you go to www.htstransmissions.com you can see bruces truck (red common rail) on the home page.
