Talking TC lockup switch

WHOA this is awesome....Everytime I race once it hits 2nd gear i flip the switch and its locked for sure like it shifts hard into each gear without playin. This is a major recommendation to all yall automatics out there. Who else is running this?

I've got one. Need a better converter right now, but its a sure way to get some smoke out of it, and before i had the 3k GSK it knocked almost a second off my 1/8th mile times using it.

I have one, and wouldnt be caught without it. Its great for hauling too when you stop. Also I think I am faster with it, cause it doesnt waste any times shifting. No problems here... Where all do you have yours mounted?

Would this lock up help in my case? I have a DTT built trans. If it shifted any faster or harder I would be driving from the rear seat. But if it would help ........

Gene

Broken input shafts. Busted u joints.

If you do not have billet I would not do locked shifts.

If your trans is not built. IE more clutches, different VB, stuff like that, you are killing the clutches and TC clutch.

O, and heres a broken input shaft. This is the break that happens about .001% of the time. They usually strip the splines and take out the front pump and TC.

No. I wouldnt worry about it in your case. It only helps with converters that have really loose fluid couplings, and arent putting much power to the ground, like the stock ones do. When i get a good converter, i probably ont use mine near as much, because it wont make my truck any faster then.

Justin is 100% correct. Upshifting with a lockup switch on a stock tranny is pretty hard on the shafts. I tried one for one day and removed it - nothing worse than dropping the tranny when your running someone...

With my truck having a full suncoast with billet shafts I hit the switch right at 2nd gear and dang it slams each gear but when i dont flip the switch it doesnt shift as hard.

And it shouldn't because it isn't shifting locked up. It's shifting like normal. Mine shifts much more violentenly when it shifts with the lockup switch than with out. God I can't wait to get the DTT in mine. Just a couple more months and I should have it hopefully. God I can't wait. First thing I'm gonna do is launch at full throttle with the lockup switch on and see what it feels like to have all of my power put to the ground instead of only half. Did I mention I'm ordering the TST grabber very soon.

My full Suncoast slam shifts without a lockup switch, don't think it could be any snappier without breaking the seat back.
Think yours needs some adjustment.

So how are your tranny's holding up? I'm considering doing it to mine.

Mine has never skipped a beat. It will slip the converter kinda bad if i try to beat on it, but so far so good. Thge Transgo helped mine a BUNCH, and i have a goerend converter in the floor right now waiting to go in, but i have had the switch on there for well over a year, and no problems.

here's what happened to me doing lock to locks. This wasn't a 4X4 launch or anything. Accelerating up a city street locked up.....3rd gear and that was it....about half throttle.

If any one's interested, I'll post images of what is left of the pump, and the snout on the converter. FIY half of the shaft is also permanently stuck inside the TC. It took me 2 hours just to get the convrter off the trans becasue the pump was so screwed up and bits and pieces of input didn't help.

My advice is don't lock to lock. Get a tight TC if you want it to act like one. But if you must lock to lock, do it with good shafts.
