Question Tap or no

Can the Quadzilla Xzillaraider be run without the pump wire tapped like the edge comp, or is it required? I have read many guys here ran the comp untapped (like an EZ) until the warranty on their trucks was up then tapped the wire. I am curious if the Xzillaraider will act like the XZT without the wire tapped.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think with the Quad box you have to have the wire tapped or else the box won't work.

Roark emailed me to let me know the boost fooler will still work, but little if any power gains since it (as stated above) is primarily a fueling box. There may be a slight difference in the timing, but nothing to write home about. I can get a module for a really good deal from a friend, and will likely install one. I just don't like the idea of trashing my brand spanking used(Remanned :lol VP44! So far, I haven't read of anyone frying their VP's by using Quad's products, but I am a cautious booger!!

Well, I went with a Stealth Cover to connect the wire, since I wasn't convinced the taps would keep a good connection. The Box is Awesome!! I had a permanent smile while driving! I am scared to boogie too much with my stock tranny, but that CTD sure woke up on level 2! I have an HX-35 coming to replace my little HY -- it is easy to swing boost into the low 30's almost instantly on half throttle. Only question/problem I have is a stumble/miss around 1800+ RPMs. Doesn't set a code, and doesn't appear when the box is OFF, but does happen at any power level. Any ideas? I have an email in to Quadzilla Tech Support, so I will keep everyone posted on their reply.

I think mine does the same thing when you get onit its like it hesitates and then my ears pop and she takes off like a bat outa hadies away. I recomend that you keep an eye on your fuel pressure i had 150,000 on my truck when i put on the quad had no fuel pressure gauge or ne thing and all the sudden my mileage dropped about a mile to the gallon for no reason in nice weather and there went my vp shortly after

Believe me, tranny mods are on the horizon. I am saving the pennies for some of Dave's recommendations, and will likely rebuild the trans. this summer. I tried one PW3 run on my gravel road, and spun the tires for an entire mile. I can't do that, stock. If I tried it on pavement with the duals, I bet I slip the torque converter lockup bigtime!

I am exploring a solution from Quadzilla Performance. I will keep everyone informed!

I received a different module from Quadzilla Performance, which didn't help. I am working with them to see what may be causing my problem. Apparently I have something going on that is different than the condition they were working on.

Has anyone ever polled what brands of VP44 were having issues with wire tap boxes? Mine is a Midwest Fuel Injection remanned unit. I noticed a better ride and no more surge when cruising, but never gained much in mileage after installing the "new" VP. Maybe I have a problem with the VP44??

i got the midwest reman pump too i also noticed no difference when replacing it in fuel mileage or anything for that matter although most claim gains all over the boards i would think your pump is fine...hopefully for your sake

Quad and company is sending me another module with some more updates. I think we may be close! I am happy to help out with this, since there seems to be a select few trucks that the Xzillaraider doesn't like. I will post another update when I install the next version. Stay tuned...

Silverfox99, I hope mine is good, too. It looked pretty, but that doesn't always mean much!! I read all over about MPG increases also. Oh well, at least it drives better!!

for the APPS, I used a PosiTap, and for the pump wire I went with a TST stealth cover. I didn't use it to attempt to salvage the warranty on the VP44 either. I have heard very good things about it for reliable, solid connections vs scotch-loks or positaps on the small pump wires. I am not very good at soldering, either. Last time I tried to solder a splice into small gauge wires like the VP wire, I wound up cutting the wires out and starting over. Really, I am that bad! The TST product is pretty nice, good fit/finish. I did run into trouble, though -- they said to re-use the rubber o-ring gasket from the aluminum cover, but my cover had a bead of clear silicone stuck to the inside! I scrambled to find sone clear or blue RTV, squirted a bead around, waited for a good skin, then installed it. I didn't want a huge mess inside the electronics! As with everything, to each his own. I may have spent more money than others think appropriate, but I made my decision based on my comfort level and performance research. I believe BD, Blue Chip, and TST all sell the covers, with TST being the cheapest. One issue I had, was whether the supplied locking nut was also supposed to attach the pump wire ring terminal. I wound up using a second machine nut to sandwich the terminal. The cover is plastic, so it is possible to strip the threads if tightened too much. Hope this helps.

Quadzilla Performance Tech Roark called me this afternoon to say delivery has been confirmed!! I can't wait to get home!!!!!!!!

Report time:

Installed new module, test sequence lights perfect. Started truck: smooth idle on all settings! Good sign, as second module I tried had a bad idle. Went for test drive. Power application is much smoother than the other modules. No more hesitation or stuttering in the power band. Smile is back on my face! Turn onto pavement from the dirt road, accelerate smartly on level 1: smooth, very strong; level 2: stronger, still smooth. I have a stock tranny, so didn't play with PL3 at all. Decel to more trooper friendly speed (didn't know my truck was that stable that fast!!), no stuttering or stumble feelings. I am grinning big, now. Cruise at 52-60 mph: what was that -- a flutter? road cracks? a stumble?? I am not sure. I turn the cruise on, but still can't tell if I am feeling the road or the fueling system. I turn off the module, and it seems less, but the road also seems smoother in this stretch...

In short, I think this module is very close, if not perfect. I have 205k on this wagon, and with an empty 3500 4x4 riding on heavy, stiff 19.5" rubber, it is possible/likely that I am feeling the highway, and not fueling issues. But I want to be sure!! I have asked to test the module over the weekend, as I will be towing a trailer to complete a housing move, approx. 600 miles round trip. This should help me see what affect the box has, running both empty and loaded. I may also try to replace my MAP sensor, since it appears original and has over 50k miles on it for sure. Several other trucks out there are testing this box too, so hopefully they will have success. I think Quad and company have found the right cause, and will have this perfected VERY soon!!

If I can use it this weekend, I will have an update for everyone here. Stay tuned...
