Tachometer installation question
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 Cummins Diesel. I have an existing in dash factory tach. I would like to hook up and external Sunpro CP7900 tach. The tach is a gasser tach, so I'm trying to figure out a way to get it working for diesel. Has anyone tried the Dakota digital module for this. If so, how did it work out? I'd like to attempt to get his working, but I have questions regarding the placement of the wires and don't want to take any chances.
I've tried searching the internet for an answer(including here), but just can't seem to find anything on it. Am I missing something, or maybe this part just doesn't work with my rig?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks!

You asked this back a few months ago on another forum..... You still haven't been able to figure this out?
I'd suggest searching through Google but using different wording. You may find a thread somewhere that may help you out.
In saying that, I dont know if the ECM on the 24 valve has any influence in the tachometer but even if it did, you should be able to tap on to the CPS or the alternator without bothering the wiring for the OEM tachometer.

Hook it up to the tach output from either the ecm or PCM, I would guess PCM as that should be a universal language . Small fuse in line would be a good idea to protect the computer output, maybe 1 amp? in case of a short.

Looks like the "ckp eng sig" closest I can decipher to a tach signal, pin 8/connector 1. Tap into it and see what happens.
Factory tach not high enough?
