Thumbs up Synthetic Time Yet???

I now have 15,500 kilometers on the rebuilt cummins and I'm wondering if it is time to change over to 5W40 Petro Canada Duron Synthetic? The blowby is down to minimal so I think the rings are seated. I'm just wondering if I should wait a bit longer? What do ya think???

I think your probably safe, did you do any pulling with it yet ?, do you plan on that particular oil for a reason? I run an amsoil dual bypass filter and their 5-30 diesel oil, if my anaylsis keeps coming back fine you I easily run the stuff up to 160000 kms ! or so they tell me. "should" save me some money in the long run.

No, I have no pulled anything yet, why do you ask??? My company supplies us with Petro Canada 5/40 synthetic, so that's the only why I'm using it. Is there really a large difference between all those brands of synthetic out there??? I can really use whatever I want so I guess it doesn't matter which oil to use. What do you think is the best all year round synthetic oil to use??

I put 5-40 petrocan oil in the 06 at 6000, seems fine so far, will put 15-40 back in at April, for further "break in"

You should tow a heavy load to put a good strain on the engine. If you can get an enclosed car hauler and put a heavy car in it, that would be good. Take a drive with it to Banff for the weekend. The weight, as well as the wind resistance will be good for it. Of course if you can get a 10,000 pound load, that would be better.

why tow a heavy load?

in my opinion its like stretching before a 8 mile run. it gets everything loose in a goold way, so you dont hurt anything. just my opinion though. pulling a heavy load will work the engine real good and "let it stretch out" i dont know how dumb that sounds, but it makes sense to me. kind of influenced right now by a friend of mind whose last name ends in beam. me and the wife kind of going through some tuff times. me being gone for 7 months, then coming back......anyhoo hope that helps maybe.

SP is kind of right. It allows the engine to 'seat' better.

Towing a load creates high, sustained cylinder pressures which push the piston rings against the cylinders walls and helps get the rings seated. The heat helps too.
