Swapping out the Rear axle, keeping the speedo...

Kind of related here.
Its a 2000 1500, from my reading the Speed sensor is on the rear axle, and used for ABS as well.
We are swaping out this axle for a non Dodge axle, if this speed sensor drives the speedo, where else can I pick it up?
There has to be some way to get a speedo reading off the T-case.
The owner does not care that the ABS is lost, just would like to have a speedo.

Well, based on my research with my swap, my ABS module sensed the pulses coming from my rear axle. (X number of pulses per revolution of the ring gear), then converted this to a speed signal (X number of pulses per mph) which gets fed to the speedo. Again this is on my Ford. I'm going to assume it probably works about the same way. You need to create a signal that gives you the same # of pulses per distance travelled equal to one ring gear rotation.

Possible locations would be the ABS sensors on the front axle (each hub) or if it is an auto tranny, there is a sensor there too. Since you need the same # of pulses per distance travelled, you may need some sort of box to modify the signal some how?

www.dakotadigital.com may make something that might work...

Here's what you need...
