Swapping a 24 valve for a 12 valve
I've tried searching, but I haven't had much luck, I guess I'm not using the right key words.
My 2000's 53 block cracked and I'm going to put a P pumped 12 valve in it, I have one sitting on the engine stand just begging to get used for something. Mechanically its a piece of cake, electrically I hope I'm not opening a can of worms, though its probably not too bad.
Who has done this type of a swap and what troubles did you run into?
Thanks,
Mike

The biggest issue will be to get your tach to work. I think that year of truck used a crank tach pick-up, so a later year 12v should just bolt in. I was just gonna bolt my throttle linkage of my apps sensor to my P pump. With you running a stick, the next biggest issues will be your cruise. You will have to change the pressure of your lift pump or run the stock 12v lift pump. I would run a relay off you lift pump for the shut-off valve. I don't think its that bad of swap as swaps go.

The swap is a snap, but the first thing to check is vehicle inspection and emission regulations. Swapping to an earlier engine than federally approved for in the model and year vehicle will usually get a vehicle red tagged and the tags pulled when inspected by the enforcement guys. Some states also levy significant fines.

Figured I'd drag this up from the depths and give everyone an update.
I wound up putting a 1995 12 valve in place, mechanically a piece of cake, put a set of twins on, not so nice to work on that side anymore.
Electrically I managed to find a 1998 5 speed engine harness and PCM, so the engine had to be setup with 1998 12 valve sensors, no problem. Had to move 2 wires out of the connector and provide one with +12 all the time and the other is wired to the start solenoid, this was for the pull in coil relay for the shutdown solenoid. My electric fuel pump is wired into the hold in coil circuit to energize the pump relay.
Everything works all the gauges, etc... only problem is the 2000 dash is looking for the ECM to communicate with it and it throws NO BUS on the odometer, I think if I switched it to 1998-1999 dash it would be no problem.
