Swapping in a 12valver into 2002 24v auto
Ok guys I'm going into unknown terrority. I just toasted my 24v and I found a cheap low mile 12v for $5can for sale. Its low miles and complete from turbo, injection pump, starter, fuel pump and so on. Next question does a guy do this swap??? I also found a used 02 but its more money and not so complete just a long block and its stripped down. My 24valver has a bad knock now, it giving me the shivers. So also how can bomb a 215hp 97 into something that will at least move my truck around.

My heavy foot and pulling something heavy. Has anybody done this swap?? I think that it would be easier than putting in another 24v motor and trying to get the computer to like the new electronics. I know PDR has done this to lots of trucks but the guy that I talked to didn't know if my cruise control would work. I've heard that you have to leave your VP hanging there. I've always wanted a P-pump motor so I can build a killer engine. I've been throwing around the idea of mixing the parts together and building a neat driver. A 12v bottom end, 24v head, mach 6 injectors, new injector lines and a tricked P pumped. I just don't know how the stock 12v bottomend would like that much power. PDR guys wants me to buy all new 12v stuff. On my budget its not going to happen.

No I was just thinking about running my tricked out head on the 12 v short block. Why can't the 12v pistons work with a 24v head? If I rebuild I plan on getting a set of forged pistons that have some heat resistant coatings on them. File fit rings would be nice to.

And you can make your cruise work its basicly like doing a p-pump conversion, you just use your apps and put a 1" spacer on the backside of it then use a 1 1/4 inch spacer and weld it to the bottom of the apps bracket and then bolt it on and plug it in.

edit: another thing all the cummins pistons are forged, so you can run the 3rd gen pistons and decompress, coat, or flycut them for a lot less money. and have a longer lasting setup since the aftermarket pistons and rings are usually only good for about 50k

Heck its only money. At least this gives me time to redo the things that I didn't like the first time around. Like a less laggy top turbo, more heat resistant pistons and one heck of a p-pump. The old bottom end kinda had too much vibration anyways. A good balance job and a good balancer should fix this issue. Hopfully by the end of summer I could get this monster together and get a dyno run on it. It sucks not having a 24v rattling at the stop lights. The old ddp injectors that I had kinda reminded me of my muscle car days with the radio antena shaking. To bad the power was so far off. Their making me some P-pump injectors for my 24v running some killer flows.
