Sustained egt numbers at #5 port (12 valve)

I made the switch from a stock exhuast manifold (serious shrinking) that I had placed the egt probe in the collector just pre turbo. I d run 1375 sustained all day long/ hills pulling 25k lbs. I run 1400 for short periods, but would hold 1375 on a long grade. Wot it would still see 1500-1600, no big del when empty racing a vette.

Now, I switched to a ats manifold, that is ported, and high temp coated. Due to clearence issues with the twins/ waistgate that I added etc, I had to move the egt probe. I placed it on the boss that is about 1-2 inches out of the #5 exhuast port. How high is safe now? I ve been using the same numbers pretty much to be safe, but I pulled a hill a week ago at the same weight and cleared it easier at more mph at the same egt. Infact I was loaded heavy.

Would 1375 pre turbo = 1500 exhuast port? on a coated manifold?

Another interesting thing, I painted my waistgate spacer and both exhuast housinging with 1200 degree bbq (white) paint, and have not burned off any or even discolored it?

I heard #6 runs hottest, and the back three definitely hotter than the front three, that is why most recommend tapping the back half of the center collector section right before the turbo flange. With that limited knowledge, I would think that a probe on #5 would read just as hot, if not a little hotter than a probe down stream mixed with the other cooler running cylinders. PM member Xl8r, I think he has a truck with six pyro's, one for each cylinder, ask him which one's typically run the hottest.

I personally would be a little leary not knowing what the other three cylinders are doing. What if an injector hangs up on an unmonitored cylinder and dumps low pressure unatomized fuel. Could get really hot in a hurry.

1375* is HOT for sustained!!!! especially while pulling 25k!!!!!!

the normal location of pre-turbo (1" behind the turbo-manifold flange) is an average of the three 3 cylinders of the runner its placed in. by moving it to a specific cylinder you are getting a much more accurate reading, but only of that cylinder.

the proper method of monitoring EGT would be a probe for each cylinder but most arent going to spend the money or want to place all 6 gauges in the cab.

1250* is the max you'll want to see in Cummins opinion...
