Streetable/Towable 500HP?

Hey guys, I've done some searching on here but can't find a straight forward answer. So here is my question. I am looking to make a reliable, very efficient, streetable, towable 450-500 ponies. Will a small (35/HT3B) set of compounds be nessicary? About where will a Smarty, Mach 4's, 35/3B put me?
Obviously with the nessicary Con FE, intake, exh, gauges..

I cant tow with 500hp if its heavy, my water temps get me on every long hill.
Seems to me 400-450 is max and more than I need. I live in a mountainous area and the hills are long and steep so perhaps in a flatter area you will be able to bump up the power but you wont really need it if its flat. I run a modified 35 ( 58mm wheel and a 14 housing) over a 3b with a 26 housing and can only keep my temps (pyro and water) in check on the long steep hills with the fuel down around 400-450hp. Others will tell you different but those are my experiences.

I've been doing it for years, towing 16k through the mountains of W.V., PA. This combo is perfect for towing & haul butt when not.

1. II Dragon fly injectors
2. Super Stock 62/71/14
3. 4.10 gears
4. Adrenaline/Smarty stack.

I was actually wondering about a single turbo. Either a II 62/14 or 64/14. I just want my turbo(s) to clear up the smoke pretty well to know im getting the most from my motor without wasting all that fuel.

You would be very happy with the setup I recommended then. With the Adrenaline, you can adjust pump stretch down to where you get no smoke running that setup. What gears do you have?

If you want 400-500hp & great towing with 3.55 gears. I would get a 62/65/14, 100hp sticks, Adrenaline. Your truck will really be a great tow rig & lay down about 450hp on the rollers.

I hear ya Ratsun, there are some killer hills in the lower BC mainland area. There are a few hills that kill me everytime I try. Mostly on highway 3 from Calgary to van. I try to keep my truck around the 400 rwhp for heavy towing. Get the egt's as low as you can get. I seems everytime I try to push a hill at higher HP levels, my coolant temps get high.

ILL CHECK but i know it lights 1430 1500
with the 37s as long as im around 1500rpm the trucks happy
my 37s change everything i think 1400 1500 is 65mph?
if i get bigger tires im gonna have to go 410 of at least 373s.
unloaded it dont matter.
if im on a long trip i mostely used 2000 tune on no less than 3 but now with the timing scale and stretch you could make a nutty towing tune with probably no smoke and lots of timing down low.......should be fun!

lent try some 85%scale 11.5*or less with low stretch and tell me how it tows

There was a thread here long ago that stated the thermal limits of our cooling systems (2nd gen) around 450hp.
In my experience thats about right, maybe a tad high.
With my tow set-up empty I cant hit 1000* in od yet pulling the Coquihalla thru the snow shed with a load she goes 1250* @50lbs boost and the water temps are up at 210* by the top of the hill. Thats a 4000' climb over 25 miles

The hill that kill me everytime is from Hope to Princeton. Its not steep but just goes on, and on. Going from west to east is worse. It make me laugh to see all of us RV's sitting by the road letting the truck cool down. Manuals don't have the heat exchanger, which heats up the coolant on the autotrucks. They can run abit more HP. I've even thought about running an extra coolant fan and putting a two tranny coolers just so I can pass everyone and get to the top without taking a break.

Are you selling the 98 Ratsun? I heard a rumor.

Yeah, that's a long pull too.
Either side of Merritt and Kamloops are also good long pulls. An auto must have a lock-up switch that's for sure, that's why there are so many black burn spots on the side of these hills. People just pull them till the auto trans fluid boils out of the fill tube and all over the exhaust manifold (rvs and regular passenger cars alike).
Yeah, I think I might sell the 98
