Stratapore or not for 04 truck

I am considering the stratpore filters for my truck. My dad says as often as I change my oil it is a waste of money. What are your opinions on the subject.
Thanks Jason

The price difference isn't all that much. Do what feels good. Stratapore for me.

Stratopores are the best oil filter available for your truck.
It comes down to wanting to use the best or not.

Hey, I use a stratopore on my first gen. I think it is worth it even though on my truck it is not "needed".

Why are strataporesthe best? Not a challenge, just a sincere inquiry. Just did my first change, used Amsoil oil & filter. Don't you guys know Amsoil is the best? They say so seventy or eighty times in their catalogue, so it must be true.
Where do you get stratapore filters?

Stratapore is a Fleetguard brand filter. You can get them from any Fleetguard dealer. Geno's Garage has them for sale for a reasonable price.

Re:Stratapore or not for 04 truck

Why are they the best.
1. Fleetguard will warranty their product if it causes a failure.
2. Fleetguard is the only manufacturer using their proprietary stratopore filtration media.
3. Fleetguard is the leader of the industry in filtration for Diesel engines.

Alot of filters out there filter just fine, but cannot handle the oil volume and pressures that your Cummins ISB will produce.

Re:Stratapore or not for 04 truck

I run Rotella T and Stratapores in my '99. 118K with a lot of heavy hauling. I had a bad experience at about 95K and AMSOil and a Fram filter were aboard. I had taken it to a shop for some mods and the kid put in AMSOil and a Fram without telling me. I noticed on a haul from Yuma to WA that I was using a bit of oil, which was unusual. I change oil and filter every 3500, and prior to the change in oil, never used a drop. Before I got back to Yuma there was significant damage done to the engine. We fixed it, went back to Rotella and Stratapore, and she’s back to using no oil and runnin’ sweet. The AMSOil probably had nothing to do with the damage (a burnt #6 piston) but I’m more comfortable with what worked well before. You can get Stratapores from genosgarage.com – good folks to deal with.

stratapore, because a rookie like me is taking advice from Cummins Northwest and the senior members here. Got my filter kit from Geno's the other day-sweet deal compared to buying from Cummins Northwest.

Thnx guys for the advice...Geno's

Re:Stratapore or not for 04 truck

Stratapores are better because they use a synthetic filter media that filters finer particles than a standard cellulose filter. How finely your oil is filtered has nothing to do with the frequency of your oil changes. I think the Donaldson Endurance is even better than the Stratapore. It filters down to 4 microns - dang near bypass quality without the extra plumbing.

Re:Stratapore or not for 04 truck

The best filter available according to this board is the Fleetguard Stratapore or the Donaldson Endurance. I have run the latter and prefer the Fleetguard Strat.

Bob's tests on some Oil filters is very intresting reading:

Jason,
We have a local chapter affiliated with DTR "Indiana DTR".
We usually have meetings every couple of months, I think the next event alot of us dieselheads will be at will be the Lanesville truck pull.
There is a thread on it in the "events" forum, your welcome to come out!
