So is the RAD like a single setting programmer that just eleminates torque management? What specifically changes when t/m is takin away, besides better 1/4 times?

Torque management is when the ecm senses lots of boost and engine load without lots of speed and defuels the motor. This was designed to protect the transmission in high torque low speed situations.

The RAD fools the ecm into thinking you are moving so it won't defuel. You are probably right that it didn't spin when you did a 10psi launch, in fact, I'll bet your truck fell on it's face a bit. All due to torque management.

The Hot unlock adds a little more fuel in the mid range and lets the juice fuel to 3200 rpm instead of 2700 rpm on the topend. If you do a serious 15 psi 4x4 launch with BD RAD to eliminate torque managment, I'll bet you truck can break into the 14's.

Better race times.

So a month ago was the last time I was able to go the the track, Every other friday is midnight drags, Run what ya got, and last time got rained out.
Finally got some time out there this weekend!
All runs were with J/A on 5x5. Decided 6x5 would be too hot sinse im already hittin 1500* on 5x5 WOT.

(PB= power break, @= around)

A month ago my times were as follows.
1st run, no pb 2wd.. 16.8 at 80.6
2nd run, PB @ 1,700 2wd.. 17.0 at 80.5

So I posted this thread asking why I was slower with more PB/boost and found about torque management. Sinse then Ive got a RAD box and have done a little better..

1st run, 4wd PB @1,600, 16.6 at 82.2
2nd run, 4wd PB @ 1,750, 16.1 at 82.7
3rd run, 4wd PB @1,900, 15.7 at 86.3

My reaction times have got much better as well, down to .172 on my 15.7.
Not quite good enough to me to make it a sig add on, but I think I can knock it down to low 15's If I can dare myself to PB it past 2k rpm.

Thanks to you guys that posted in this thread a month ago and helped me out! Better times will be on there way shortly.
Ian

Sorry but i think we would like to know what the boost # is at launch. Everyone's truck will be different at those RPM's.
How much boost are you leaving at?

Those runs look much better. Looks like you are about at the limit of your HY-9 turbo.

Oh yes I am definantly pushin the HY's limit haha. I Hit 1507* at my highest temp topped out at 25 lbs and despite not lettin off and keepin it goin hard, it definantly made me nervous. I had never had it over 1400* before!

My 60 ft times were a bit better.
One month ago it was
#1 2.63 on my 16.8 run
#2 2.79 on my 17.0

last weekend they were..
#1 2.36 on my 16.6
#2 2.24 on my 16.1
#3 2.29 on my 15.7.

Scotts jeep I had a feeling someone was gonna ask that..
Im actually not too sure. See, RAD shuts off my Tach so I was watching rpms on the attitude and I monitor my boost with a mechanical gauge in the center of my dash.
Should I launch according to boost from now on then?
I was launching around 14-16 I know that much. What boost should I be shootin to build for a good launch not too hard to break stuff but not too soft?

Strange your 60's aren't much better?

I leave at 20 lbs and 60 ft. in the 1.70's. I would have thought you might at least get sub 2.0's.

I forgot Ian. Do you use a lock up switch?

Launching at 20 lbs Im sure would get me below 2.0. I dont think I launched with more then 17 tops. Every run I took I boosted a little harder but man.. Im just nervous ya know. With my truck bein my dd and makin me money at work, I cant afford to have it down for a day to fix things.

No I dont have a lock up switch. I looked into em a few months back, but that was before I had even run my first 1/4 and decided I was fine without one. Should I start lookin into one again for racin??

The lockup switch will improve your times but it can cause stress on the transmission. Same with boosted launches.

You have to be the judge as to how much you want to push it. I can only relate what I've had success with. I've broken a billet output so I realize every part has it's limits. I've done a bunch of launches at 20 psi and 25 psi is the end of my comfort zone. The trick is you don't want to spin and then suddenly catch traction. Drop your air pressure and stay out of the water.

If this is your daily driver for work you should keep a level head and don't push it. I was always greedy and wanted to go faster so I've been put on the trailer a couple of times.

Haha yea I get where your comin from. For now Ill just get the new turnbuckle adjusted right and boost a little harder.

Mainly just play it be ear and feel cause I definantly dont wanna have to get put on a trailer haha.

Prob take a break for a while after that. Untill new turbo and sticks time, I'll only be able to do so much with what I have now.

Thanks for the feed back and the help, your the man.

Keep everyone posted on if/when I get some better times in the next few weeks.

So Im bringin this thread up again.

I raced last night and am gettin closer to what I want. Launched with about 18lbs and ran a 15.2 at 87 mph. So stoked! New spring is workin on the j-hook as well. maxed out at 28lbs for half way down the track.

My new curiosity is about my shifting...
I dont shift into 4th untill I cross the finish line. And Im almost certain Im not locking up either. I figure that would prob happen same time it shifts into 4th.

Is that normal? MikeD is that why you suggested a lock up switch?

By the way, congrats to Nate 88 for a perfect .000 R/T.
Me and him were door to door till the last 300 ft when I pulled ahead.
Dang good races thats for sure! Two weeks and its on again!

Thanks buddy, I thought that was a pretty dang good R/T myself ! I need to get the custom tuning on my Adrenaline dialed in so I can outrun you . That last run looked like this:

Boost launch- 20 lbs (just asking for breakage )
60'- 2.073
330'- 6.247
1/8th- 9.845 @ 68 mph
1000'- 12.981
1/4- 15.6 @ 83.8 mph

The only thing I changed in the ADRTORQ tune was the pump stretch, and it was set to 1800 for that run, compared to 2400, which ran me at 16.05 @ 83.5 mph. (I'm in dire need to get this thing dialed in!)

Now if we can get the shifting figure out (probably need a lock-up switch or tranny controller from SunCoast) and get your HX put on, you'll be good to go for sure. If you want some help with it this weekend let me know and I'll be more than happy to help out.
