Strange Race time.
So I took my first real 1/4 runs out at RMR this weekend and was a little suprised at the dif between the first and second run. Both 2wd launches about a 45 min apart. Bare in mind, Im very new to the drag strip and arent that savy with it yet.
First run I was watching the lane guy telling me where to pull forward too and when he said stop, I already had a green and wasnt able to powerbreak=PB it at all just slam it to the floor.
First run, no PB, 16.8 1/4 with a BS reaction time 1.4 cuase of the guiding guy.
Second run, PB to about 1700 RPM boost about 10 then launch with a reaction time of .7 but my 1/4 time was 17 flat.
My question is, with Half the reaction time, AND PB added in, How could I have been even slower my second run?
Any ideas are appreciated.

Reaction times means nothing with regards to your 1/4 mile time, you could sit there for a hour and you would still run the same. Your time doesn't start until you cross the beam.
In essence you only lost 2 tenths of a second between the runs.

What was your 60 foot time? Did it spin on the power braked launch. I know if I tried to launch at 10 pounds in 2wd my truck wouldn't even move.

Ok that makes sense on the r/t I wondered that. My 60' times were; first run = 2.63.. second run = 2.79.
It is possible I spun a bit on the second run with PB but it sure didnt seem like it. I didnt fish tail at allnot even a bit I dont think.

My question is... Why if you have a billet DTT are you leaving in 2wd? You would vastly improve your times if you leave in 4wd with about 15psi of boost. You could cut almost a full second off your 60' times.

Cause Im new to the track Mike D! hahaha. That brings up more questions... I was always told you dont want to drive full on in 4wd. That its more for slower speeds and muddin and snow etc etc.
Do I not need anything beefed up as far as my tranfer case and or front dif go?

I hear ya. I had to learn too.
As long as you're going in a straight line, driving/racing in 4wd is fine. I've been racing my truck for years with the same transfer case, diffs etc... If you don't get over eager with your launches you should be fine. When you get done with your run just pop it back in 2wd before you hit the return road back.
Give it a shot next time out. Grab the first amber staging light, build your boost and ease into the next bulb. Wait till you see the third yellow and let her eat, if you wait to see green you're too late.
Good luck.

Mike D gave you some very good advice. One additional thing I wanted to add, is that an 02 auto has "torque management". The torque management will limit the amount of torque that the engine will produce in 1st and 2nd gear, when the vehicle speed is below a certain amount. BD makes a device called a RAD (racer anti-defueler), or I think they are calling it a speed limiter now, that eliminates the torque management. Without eliminating the torque management, you can get into the situation of leaving with more boost and going slower.

Ok, that links this post with another one i have in this forum titled.. GSK questions. Check that, would you say the hot unlock on the edge juice/attitude is pretty much same thing as the RAD?

Not at all. The RAD and Smarty are the only things I know of that address this issue. Search through some of Paul's posts because this is probably what caused your slower time on the second go.
