Straight pipe--what do I tell the muff shop I want?

I'm looking to straight pipe my truck. To save some bread, I just want to walk into the muffler shop and tell them what size pipe I need and how to bend it. So my question is, what do I need? What size do I need on each end and what type of offset do I need.

I'm guessing this is the cheapest way to go based on what I have read so far.

Also, what size clamps do I need. I don't want to weld it in case I think it's too loud.

Thanks!

You shouldn't have to bend it at all. It should just be a straight piece of 3-3 1/2" pipe.

Two minute response time...now that's what I'm talking about!

Thanks BigBlue. It doesn't have to be flared on either end? The section coming from the resonator appears larger than the end going to the tailpipe.

First thing is to find a shop that will believe that the resonator isn't a cat. It's best to find a shop that has some diesel exprience. Most shops only know gassers, and won't want to put straight pipe in, let alone take off the resonator which they whole heartedly believe is a catalytic converter.

I guess I should have made my first post clearer.

First, they are not touching the truck. I probably won't even go in the truck so they can't give me any mess about cat/resonator/muffler laws/etc.

Second, I want to leave the resonator. I want it louder, but I already had a neighbor complain about when I fire up in the morning. Not to mention I like to be able to talk to the people riding with me.

Finally, I thought you needed an offset? I know you can use a straight piece of pipe, but that changed the angle of the exhaust. I want it as factory looking as possible...but without the muffler.

Thanks again.

If I remember correctly, I used a 68" piece of 3" pipe, flared to 3"id on each end, with a 2" offset. That was to replace res. and muff. If you are leaving the res you'll need a 4" to 3" reducer and a shorter pipe.

I'd take the 4" out of the resonator and run 4" all the way to the back,

The result would be a 3.5" downpipe feeding a 4" system with only the resonator acting as a muffler.

This should be a good setup for under 350hp and would sound sweet imho.

I think the main restriction in the stock system is the neckdown from 4" back to 3.5"
