My exhaust on the ford was e-bay cheapie ie "magnaflow style" it does have the fins though. I did the angle iron trick it did seem to get rid of some of the drone. But I have gotten used to it and like it so no biggie!!

Correct, if you change the mass of the pipe you also change the resonat frequency.

Hey jlarmour,( hope I spelled that right ), which of your pickups do you like better, for towing, hauling, and such, and wich one wins in a drag race? By the way, how far east are you?

How loud is 4" compared to 3" or even 5" compaired to 3"? I've seen lots of opinions about the sound of the priviouse sizes but couldn't find a direct comparison.
Where is your exhaust exiting ?? Before or After the rear wheel ??

I straight pipedm mine a year ago exits the same as stock with a 5" SS tip. Got PLENTY of noise polution tickets up here. Way to costy so I installed a 4" staright through muffler from FloPro and it sounds nice and deep. Staright pipe was extremely loud when towing. ( from Toronto Canada to Sedona AZ ) 8600 km's round trip.

Just my 2 cents

The ford right now hands down outpulls the dodge (1 ton dually with a few toys), and will outright clean the dodges clock. I stress for now! But I have to replace injectors on the red beast, so it will be a while before the Dodge can catch up. I'm about 30 miles from the Kansas border on I-70.

It is exiting in the stock location. I just replaced the cat/resonator/muffler with a piece of 3" pipe.

what about header wrap? that would quiet the pipe and insulate from the cab. should kill the drone pretty well.
