Stock Chrome Wheels

I "think" the biggest tires you are SUPPOSED to run on the 6.5" chrome wheels are 265's

BUT

who is running bigger??? What sizes???

My 245s just look too puny. I would like to ideally run 295's or 305's on these wheels. But, that might be pushing it.

Many people run oversize tires on the stock wheels.

Pick any tire brand and 265/75 do not approve a 6.5" rim width

I went taller but narrower, 235/85

if I can get my hands on those michilen xl's 38.whatever there for a 16x6.5" wheel. I'll run them on the stock wheel. I dont see a problem with hight just width. Like the 315x70x16's are to wide for that wheel and put to much pressure on the lip I guess? or something that causes the tires to fail. Then again your talking to the guy who runs tubless tires on his tube tire wheels for the motorcycle. I hear its a no no but i dont know anyone thats had a problem wtih that either

I run 285's on my stock 16x6.5 rim's. I think it looks great. Makes the tire look kind of fat, and fits the truck well. I will continue running 285's. Pictures in my Gallery

The aluminum ones are wider than the chrome ones.

Chrome/steel are 6.5" wide, aluminum are 8" (maybe 7.5")

Folks have ran 315's on the stock aluminum ones, but there are also reports of the bead cracking on the aluminum ones, whether those are related, who knows.

I was going to go up to 265's but I would like a little bit of tire warrenty with the dealers. All the dealers but one won't touch it with the 6.5" rim, 245 only or smaller.

Problem is going up to 265, then I have to get that for a spare as well. 265 would be the limit for me to get on those rims, too fat and you just stress the rim bead and get uneven wear. I like donuts in my coffee, not on my truck..

I have 315's on 8 inchers and 285 on the 6.5's. The 285's would look better on the 8's. Can you put 315's on the 6.5's. Sure you can. Looks dumb as heck, plus only half the tire is hitting the road. The only prob I had when I bought those 285's was that they were D rated and Sams club didnt want to mount because my truck needed e rated. Well I bought a tire balancer and machine and do it myself and save 50 bucks. I wouldnt go bigger than 285's on the 6.5s.

I have a 305/70-16 on my steel 6.5" spare-no problems. I have a couple of 265 you can have for free is you need a spare.

How much was the tire machine and balancer that you saved 50 bucks??
