Stage 1 injectors: worth it?

I am replacing my VP44 and thought of servicing the injectors. The diesel shop who sold me the IP recommended not to bother just pulling the injectors to inspect and clean, but to put in stage 1 instead. They said I will get a little better fuel mileage and a tad of power. They sell the set for about $250. Is this a good idea? I am not after large power increase, actually stock power is Ok for me.

Is the $250 for complete injectors or just nozzles? That would be pretty cheap for complete bodies, but if you are happy with how it is stock then I would just save my money and leave them alone. Just my .02

Yes, the complete set of assembled injectors for $250. I didn't order them 'cause I haven't done my homework yet. He is saying there will be mileage improvement... but if it is .5 mile/gal, the $250 pay for many, many miles at that rate! Extra power... would I even feel it with Stage 1?

But mileage can fall when the vp44 is failing so it's hard to say if that 2 mpg is just from the injectors. I'm assuming its the injectors from the rv 275 hp cummins they want to use. It should be a good investment $/hp, even better if you were to add a timing box/boost fooler later. Off the top of my head I think its like a30 hp gain people typically see from rv275's.

I ran DD1s for years and I think they were a great seat-o-pants improvement. I would recomment a stage 1 or even 275s over stock. Better yet, IMHO, would be some EDM style injetors. I am running Mach 1.6s and like them. Not a huge difference over DD1s. The EDM style injectors are cleaner but $$. If you add a box or programmer with timing you will really feel some improvment with the nozzles.
Good luck. BTW, nice write up on the walbro.

You can definately feel the difference between stock and stage one injectors. On my truck, RV 275 injectors 30-60 HP claimed gain, felt like the previous stock injectors with my edge comp box turned on level one. I have since changed my injectors out again and there is a huge smoke difference and power difference with my current dirty, smokey but cheap setup.

I ran an EZ and Mach 1.6's on my '99. Together with a DTT tranny, that was one fine running truck.

Better mileage can be obtained by better engineered fuel spray angles that result in better atomization which equates to a more complete burn and hence the possibility of better mileage. Now if you hotrod around with the increased power, no you will not get more mileage. Sometimes old injectors get a little out of tune as far as pop off pressures. Some gains can be made by having a newer more perfectly balanced set of injectors. More perfect flow/ pop off pressure equals more perfect timing and a smoother running truck... more efficiency. True though, you cannot use 350 HP all the time as opposed to the stock 235-245 HP and get better mileage, but if you driving habits remain the same, there is a likelyhood of improved mileage.

Thank you all for the great information. My impression is that the set they offered me is not the 275 rv injectors. They described it as a proprietary set that they order from some company in Germany who reverse engineered Bosch injectors for performance increase. This is what they are talking about:
http://www.pensacoladiesel.com/index...oduct_id=29883
They called them "stage 1" over the phone, the web site does not say it. Also, the price I got over the phone is better than the web site price.
Tempting...
Can anyone briefly sum up for me what are Jammers vs DDs vs Machs? Are they different brands? Sorry guys but I am a dummy in the performance world.

Jammers and DDs are made by Diesel Dynamics. Machs are Formula1. I did not see anything on DD's site about jammers but bet one of their vendors has more information.

Alright, thanks, I drive it pretty easy anyway, and dont get on it very often (fuel cost too much)
