Question Stacks or Twins

One the guys that I work with has just gotten a 2002 2500 QC LWB 4x4 H.O. He wants to put on exhaust but cant decide between Stacks or Twins. If he runs twins he's going to run 4" turbo back then split it before the axle and run 6" to the tail ( all stainless pipe). If he runs Stacks he is going to run 4" back then to 6" stacks. He wants to know which one would be louder? And what the difference in the sound would be between the two. Thanks!!

Well faster than ford, I don't have an answer for you but would ask you to post some pictures if he runs dual six inch pipes out the back. That would be intresting.... Only other question I would have to ask is why? Certainly not for performance.

You are talking basically the same system, so the stacks would be louder inside the cab by virtue of the location of the outlet.

I'll try to get some pics when he gets the exhaust. No its not for performance but he just likes the way the it will look. He's gonna have the chrome tips on it so it'll look real nice!! Maybe those Magnaflow tips that are 6"x24" (the ones that have the 4" adaptor made onto it.)

I was just trying to picture six inch mandral bent tail pipes curving iover the axle.... maybe with a suspension lift...

No i'm not a preacher. He said that it had a 3" suspension lift. He really hasnt worked out the final details yet so he might split it after the axle or not. If he has the room he'll split it before.

IMHO, a 4" is tight on clearance. Dual 4's are even tighter. The dual 4"er's I've seen all appear to go over to the drivers side just in front of the differential housing. I don't think there is enough clearance to run a 4" to the rear bumber area since 3's are tight. Maybe if the spare was removed.
Lift it enough and throw in some extra $$ and you can run any size you want.
From what I've seen, there is more theories on exhaust types/sizes/routings/materials than people inquiring about it.

Before someone makes a smart remark, it's bumper not bumber.

Stack it! I am stacking mine sooner or later.

It will further establish the fact that there is a real engine under the hood. Heck, running duals out the back is no different than a lot of the gassers run.

My opinion!

If he wants loud, Get Rips' shorty system, and put the 6"x24" long tip on it. That 6" tip will be a heck'uva hog leg hangin out there. I bet that will rattle your brain,, short from having stacks on a reg. cab pickup with the back glass open!!

Well, if you want honest feedback, here goes:

This system is needlessly complex and will hurt performance.

Dual 6" pipes will have such a cooling effect that it's almost like putting a cork in the end of your tailpipe as far as flow goes.

If you're going to transition to larger pipe, it should be done very gradually, first going to a section of 5", THEN 6" with VERy gradual tapered sections joining the two.

Otherwise, just go with a basic 4" setup with a 5" tip and be done with it.

Just how much performance is a person willing to sacrifice for the vanity of certain cosmetic appearance items??
