24 valves may not need a cat becasue the IP is computer controlled and can probably let the engine burn fuel more efficiently then the mecanical IP on the 12 valves. I'm not positive but I think there were emission law changes that brought on the 24 valve engine. I know that is what is going on at the place I work at. We are going through all kinds of engine changes to meet more stringent emission laws. They get tougher in a few years also so there could be even be more changes to the CTD.

Ask to look at the inspection manual. My inspection mechanic (and longtime friend) showed me the manual, it says basically, "must have catalyst, if equipped from factory, up to 8001 lbs" So, simply register it over 8001 lbs and no more problem.
Other option, get a used cat, (or your old one) and hollow it out.

Francis I have probably seen you on the road before out there. My daily job takes me to W. Chester Acura,Mercedes, and Ottos BMW!! I have seen a ton of stacked trucks out there!

I live in NJ and when I got my truck inspected I asked about "stacking" in the garden state. I went to the inspection center forman and he said they have no problem with stacks and I would pass! I am looking to do it next year. Yank the cap off and put some stacks on it. Your truck stacks look awesome! Perfect height, size, etc!!

Good luck!
