Stacking a TST PM3 and and Edge and other electronic mods

Ok, I know that this has been talked about before and I see that a few people have this setup in their sigs. But, help me here... Why dont they 'fight' each other??? How does this setup work?? I have heard that the TST box is only fueling, and the edge is only timing so that combining the two is fine and works great. Is this true??? And by 'timing' what is meant? Does this mean advancing the timing accross the RPM range, or a more aggressive advance rate??
Also, with the mods in my sig, I notice that the engine seems to defuel way earlier than 3,500 RPM (like 3,000 or so) when the RPM's are ramping up quickly like in second gear. I have been told that sending my PM3 back to TST to make it a comp will correct this??? True????? Finally (sorry this is a lot) what do I have to do to the computer to extend the RPMs to 4,000?? The engine pulls great up to 3,500 and I would like to extend it to 4,000 RPM. Can TST also do this when I convert to a comp PM3??? I know I would probably want to change the valve springs as well for 4k.

The EZ will add extra fuel delivery timing.
Basically gets your fuel burning earlier and you get more smoke and the power comes on earlier.

Get the PM competition box it will fuel harder and will not defuel until about 3400 or so rpms.

I have my setup stacked PM3 Comp and EZ.
When you do get your EZ make sure that you plug the PM3 map connection in first, then plug the EZ in then plug the Stock wire harness in.

As far as I know you will never see 4k rpm out of a 24v short of a p7100 conversion. Without custom programing or the comp upgrade your pm3 reduces fueling at 3000 rpm, it can be upgraded to fuel to 3450 though. Stacking the ez with a pm3 added 50hp and 110lbs of torque to mine but did not work till I installed twins. Some trucks respond well at lower hp, some dont. Tim

Most excellent. I will send the TST back for re-programing as a comp and pick up an Edge. Sounds like that will hold off the urge for bigger injectors for another few months!!!! lol

Thanks Guys

With your setup you'll probably see somewhere in the range of 60-80 more hp with a PM3.

Re:Stacking a TST PM3 and and Edge and other electronic mods

So the way I understand it the PM3 puts out 120hp and the EZ puts out 65hp. By adding the PM3 to my EZ only gives me a total of 125-145 additonal hp to a stock truck. So is it worth the additional 5-25hp to keep the EZ or should I sell it to help pay for the PM3 ??? Thanks for all the info.

Re:Stacking a TST PM3 and and Edge and other electronic mods

Uh oh! :-X Would this be a bad time to repeat my no-stacking-it's-too-much-timing speech?

Maybe I could just link it? See https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...9985#msg219985

Or try here:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...3671#msg213671

That should about do it for my position on stacking. I will probably sell my EZ to finance the TST comp box, but it's awfully tempting to at least TRY stacking the two.

BTW-- my position on stacking is NOT shared by very many... you will find that most guys would say to do it. To each his own I guess.

Re:Stacking a TST PM3 and and Edge and other electronic mods

On your ETH you're not going to see massive gains from stacking. A member here, Papa Smurf, has dynoed with an EZ & DD2s and then with a PM3, EZ, and DD2s... all the same except for the stack, and he gained ~60 hp from stacking. His truck is about the same as yours... a HO 6 speed. The ETC trucks repsond wonderfully to stacking. I have gained .35 tenths in the quarter mile when stacking, and my dad gained a full 160 hp when he turned on his PM3 comp this past weekend (stacked with an EZ on top of supermentals on a ETC). You will hear a little detonation when the motor is stone cold, but once it warms up it goes away. I have never heard of any ill effects from stacking.

Re:Stacking a TST PM3 and and Edge and other electronic mods

I've been running stacked (boxes that is) for a little over a year now with no ill effects. I just recentlly put the PM3 Comp on in place of the old PM2 and can tell you there is hudge difference. ;D Great low end and mid range power, it's also nice to see the pump not defueling until about 3,200rpm's.
